Depreciation

  1. What is the worst ducati for depreciation?. The reason for my question is this. I own an 11 plate hypermotard 796 it has 1504 miles on the clock. A lot of my friends ride speed triples & street triples the y belong to rat thing .after much agonising i thought i would throw the idea of a part exchange around . Well i was a little horrified . One of the dealers who has a ducati francise offered me £4500. When i said that was not realy on i was told that they are so difficult to sell etc etc. In fact it did me a favor as i bought a ducati because they are not on every street corner and i wanted to be different. I just did not think it would perhaps cost as much .but i do like the bike a lot.the only reason for the possible change was that they have a great social thing going .

  2. If you were trying to buy one, the same dealer would tell you prices are sky high because there is so much demand and they are difficult for dealers to source.
'£7999 to you sir, and I'm doing you a favour'.

  3. Judging by your email I would say a 796 HM is the worst for depreciation although you don't say what you paid for it but don't change bike just because your friends wont let you come out to play, change because you want to .
You also don't say if the Ducati dealer was offering £4500 to buy the bike or as part exchange. If it just to buy the bike then fair enough , the dealer wants to make a profit as he is not there just to help out. You should be able to get more if you sell privately of course.

  4. I saw a Pani R in Ducati Coventry this morning. 13 plate with either 600 or 1,600 miles on it (can't remember) for only £ 22k. Seems a pretty good buy price. I wonder what the vendor got for it from the dealer!

  5. You'll never get a good price from a dealer all the time you've got a hole in your arse. As Pete says, if they're buying they'll say the bikes are hard to get rid of and not worth much, but to sell the same bike they'll hike the price right up and say they're sought after. Do yourself a favour and sell it privately, then haggle like fury for the Triumph. You'll save thousands.

  6. Just buy a Speedtriple/Streettriple aswell ! You can't have too many bikes and it's worth having a spare

  7. Sell it privately and buy a 1098 Streetfighter, it's what the Speed Triple wants to be when it grows up ....

  8. Worked for me :upyeah:

  9. So let me get this straight, your thinking about trading your bike in to be the same as all your friends. Okay fair enough. The Trumpets are really good bikes, so if you want a Triumph, then take the Ducati to a Triumph dealer and see what they'll offer you in px. You'll get a much better deal on the bike and you'll have room to barter.
All new bikes loose a lot as soon as they roll out the door. At just over 1500 your bike is barely run in, but its worth baring in mind that you've just gone through the time when your bike has lost the most percentage wise

  10. I reckon if you listed it at just less than £5k you dprobably get a sale.

all bikes depreciate, some more than others granted but its not always a brand thing, it's also model specific.

The trick is knowing when to sell and who to.

the last couple of bikes I've sold recently ive managed to do ok on, but I did buy them 2nd hand originally so they'd lost a chunk already when I'd bought them.

i also listed them on both autotrader and eBay (as a private listing not auction) and both times ebay stirred up the most interested parties and both buyers.

if you want to move it on I'd suggest doing so now or holding fire until next year, you might also want to consider trying to contact some of the German & Dutch dealers that come over with vans for multiple bikes.

If you do some google searching you'll find on a few forums these guys have driven over regularly and bought a few bikes, if you actually contact them via email and offer them the bike it might give them chance to find a buyer first and then they 'might' commit. But add a couple of hundred to what you actually want as your lowest because you'll have to haggle no doubt.

good luck with the sale if you decide to but only do it if you want the move, not because your mates want you too.

ps - the post earlier about contacting a triumph dealer is also worth a shot, obviously they have money in the bike they're trying to sell you so your likely to get offered a slightly higher trade in, if you can find a dealer who sells both triumph and ducati I'd start with them

  11. Stick it on ebay and make your ad and the price attractive, you'll shift it.

And for god sake don't buy a new Triumph, they're the worst bike for depreciating.

Always buy ex-demo or 6 months old, they're the best bargains. And shop around, there's always a deal to be had.

  12. thanks for the replies .a lot to think about but i bought the hyper because of its awesome looks and individuality so going to take a long time just to consider.
    Thanks all

  14. Cobb and Jagger - York

  15. Far from it. The Streetfighter is almost the same riding position as a sportsbike. Almost. The Monster will feel a lot further forward compared to your hyper too
