I've had my D16 nearly a year now. As well as regular weekend blats I've done three days on track and a couple of bigger trips away to Suffolk and Scotland. The bike is awesome to ride, but not very practical for two reasons. Fuel range is a bit of an issue - 60-70 miles at best. Secondly the BT-01 rear tyre lasts no more than 1500 miles and just isn't that good. In fact in the wet it is horrible. So, my winter project is to address both these issues. My trip to Scotland with Ducati Manchester was really helpful as I was introduced to a couple of current and ex-D16 owners, one of whom gave me a lead on a blemished tank for sale. He also gave me the name and number of a guy in Hull who has experience of doing the ally work to enlarge one on another bike. A few phone calls and a bit of Paypal later and I have acquired the tank and it is on its way to Hull. I need to get a fuel cap for it (I'll leave the standard locking one in my existing standard tank). Any recommendations?
The BT-01's are shocking in anything but dry weather, had a few two wheel drifts in the wet not a pleasant feeling
Can't quite remember why, but it didn't work out. I got this one from a contact I made on the Ducati Manchester Jockland trip last year. Blimey! How'd you get this pic then?
I did the fab work on the tank and the other one you mentioned.....looks nice finished have you fitted it yet??
How does this affect reach to inside bar? The tank looks SS type high on the sides so does the taller tank make it a more difficult reach across (rather than reach-around ;-) ) at full hang off lean?
not sure to honest, the first one I did I was asked to enlarge capacity without the tank looking out of place
Surely for a D16 its gotta be top notch like the rest of the bike hense id suggest NCR or Moto Corse. By the way nice work rcv4.My MS Production carbon tank is different shape to standard for my 916.Not sure it holds much more though as although it is wider it is also lower than standard fuel tank. That DR16 tank you enlarged looks like the perfect solution to me.
Wow I didn't know that - nice job - thanks It is fitted now. I will see if I can post a pic later today.
I haven't ridden it with the new tank yet, but I am off to Almeria in January so I'll find out then. Just sitting on the bike it seems OK though. If anything it might make it a bit easier for an old-fart like me to get prone on the tank LOL
Hmmm nice shame about the price though, maybe moto corse do a billet alloy one cheaper. Then again I cant even buy my favourite footwear for that price and im sure NCR fuel cap wont wear out like boots and trainers do.
Ok, here is a pic of the bike with the enlarged fuel tank fitted. Looks fine don'tcha think? Still haven't filled her up or ridden her (salt is down on the roads around here) but I will file a report just as soon as I have.
