Took a diavel out today whilst my multi was being serviced and really quite liked it. First few miles hated it And found it really slow to turn in but the more I rode it the more I liked it Leaving me with a big smile. I'm looking to change my multi 2013 s touring in next few months and am tempted with the diavel for fun factor but suspect the multi will win out. The lack of ability to chuck top box on is a factor as I use it for work to carry clothes and occasionally buying shopping on way home. Also I do prefer the ability to carry a pillion but not sure how the diavel would be for that. Anyone used it? Also the other major factor is that I suspect it will get an update next year which the dealer thinks may also be likely.
I am guessing that it's top box ability wasn't one of the key design features during the inception process. Over thought of a rucksack as the flexible choice?
I have seen a Diavel with a big Givi top box parked outside the Ducati factory on my way down to WDW 2012. Not pretty, but it has been done! I'm never a happy pillion (I'd much rather be in control) but have sat on the back of my other half's Diavel for the run back from Snells when I've dropped my bike off for a service. I find the little handle that pulls out from the back of the seat rather low - as if designed for a pillion with gibbon-arms - certainly to hold onto with both hands.
I wouldn't put a top box on as would ruin it I think. Just trying to decide if I could cope with just a rucksack for when I need to carry anything. I just find the top useful to keep some waterproofs in for work and the ability to nip to the shop on the way home. Also I would probably look at the pillion backrest if I did get one. Can this be fitted and removed quickly so that I could just put it on when carrying a pillion? I'm likely going to change in March time. Do dealers do extended tests over several Days to get s better feel for it. I like the idea of the bike just wondering if the novelty would wear off quickly and the multi is the better all round bike
The rear Dp soft tail luggage pack is useful for storing waterproofs ect,I am sure you can retro fit the back rest and yes the novelty will wear off, great bike for a couple of hours but uncomfortable for any distance work, others will disagree but that's what I found, multi is a much better all rounder.
The seat rest can be removed quickly I believe but the grab bars take a bit more to remove so you end up with this (this is the Strada with luggage and backrest removed but it would be the same if you had the backrest on the normal Diavel. Nothing wrong with this look IMHO!! Shad do a stand alone backrest that would be easier to remove I assume and doeasnt need the Ducati grab rail, indicator combo And yes the topbox is practical but not the best looking thing to do to a Diavel
I run mine with a Givi V47 top box, yeah it looks crap, but for touring its a must, I ran it up to 120 with no problems fully loaded. You can get pillion back rests for the Givi boxes and hook up stop lights. The only issue for me is the pannies hide the turn indicators from the side and the top box overhangs the brake light, but then not many cars are behind the bike for long
Thanks for all help bought one and should be collecting weekend or start of week. Picked up a 2015 dark ex demo with 1000 miles full termi system and all carbon parts added by dealer for £12495 and added the rail kit and back rest. I'll remove the back rest and just fit for when gf come out with me.
Wow that was a good price. I have a Multi too and just Bought a Diavel Dark, great bike but not been able to ride it due to the weather and bad shoulder/neck. Gonna go for Ventura rack option for Diavel as I already have it for my R1 so have bags, just need brackets. Also looks stealth when bags and hoop removed. Thought about reusing multi top box.
