Diavel Thermostat

  1. Has anoyone had the problem of overheating on cold days? Mine does and I think some owners have been drilling a bypass hole in the stock thermostat to over come the problem rather than buying a lower opening temp unit from Ducati. Has anyone done this mod?

  2. What year is your bike? I seem to remember there being an issue with thermostats on some early models on the Diavel forum.

  3. its an 11 plate, I've bought the revised unit now that opens at a lower temp

  4. From Ducati? I take it there was no chance of a warranty claim or good will gesture.

  5. Duplicate post.

  6. yep, from W M Snell, it was not a factory recall so costs are mine, at £40 I'm happy to sort it and do the work myself

  7. At least it wasn't too expensive.

  8. I changed it tonight. For any other 11 plate owners who may suffer this problem the updated thermostat has two bypass holes in it and opens at 55. The original unit has no bypass holes and opens at 65. Id say it is impossible to drill your own bypass holes in the original thermostat.

  9. Was it a big job? I'm wondering if my 12 plate has the older thermostat. Don't really wanna get caught on the way home one night and find out if does.

  10. The new one has a white dot painted on the outside, you know how Ducati like their paint dots, it may be they only paint the dot on OEM parts. If you have been riding the bike in temps around 10 to 12 degrees or lower you'd have noticed the engine temp going high, mine got to 110, the give away is the fans on at motorway speeds. The job is made easier by using hose clamps, you need three, plastic sheeting to cover the bike and a funnel/bowel to catch the coolant, I caught 300ml of coolant and lost about 60ml on the garage floor, filter it out through the wife's stockings (ask first…!) and put it back in. RH faring panel has to come off for access to the rad cap. The only tricky bit is releasing the hose clamp that comes into the top of the thermostat. Run the bike up without the rad cap on to check the coolant level and allow air out, took me about 90mins.

  11. Not the worst job. I have been surprised how hard it is to take panels off to work on the bike.
Hardest bike had to get access to parts to work on them.

  12. yeah, its a real pain, the styling has its price, it takes ages to get anything done

  13. Tried to remove the surround for the lower clicks the other day to discover the upper clock stops it coming out. Didn't have time to work out how the f****r comes off so bolted it all back up.

  14. on my 11 plate I had to remove the four bolts holding the upper display in place, and to do that I had to remove the front faring and I took of the touring screen fitted to mine so I did not damage it.

  15. Yep I've got touring screen and sat nav fitted. Just need to chase the old sat nav wire the idiot before me ran back to under the seat and spliced into the loom at the fuse box. Was not impressed when I found that one.
Think I'm going to have to remove all the tank panels to get at the cable ties.
