Diavel Tyre Suggestions For European Tour

Discussion in 'Tyres' started by Stevefrs, Jul 10, 2019.

  1. As title my brother is planning on taking his 2016 diavel around europe in a couple of weeks. He is currently running Michelin power rs but was looking for something with a bit more longevity. From the route they are planning to Monaco and back they expect 4000miles. Any thoughts on options for a tyre that should last? Thanks

  2. Thread moved and title changed to suit.

On the subject of the tyres though, I think you’d be hard pushed to get some to last 4000 miles unless you ride like a granny. Unless someone can tell me different.

  3. I think so as well. Told him to plan on having one fitted on the way back but he is concerned about being able to find a rear tyre in stock

  4. You may have a day wait, that’s all.

I’m on my second rear after 2000 miles and my dealer had one the next day for me.

  5. If you know you are going to need a new rear at some point during the trip, choose an appropriate place and order the tyre in advance. Then you just rock up on the day and get it fitted. No waiting around. I’ve done this on a couple of occasions. New tyres, N85 ‘Route Napoleon’, sweet...

  6. You know you will need a tyre part way through the trip, so don't compromise on handling, fit the best handling tyre and enjoy the roads.

Set off with a new Michelin Power RS, and plan to have one fitted at 2,500 to 3,000 mile. Then enjoy the roads and don't worry about compromised handling.

If Mich not available, go for the OEM Pirelli.

  7. Thanks will share the advice with him.

  8. I believe the Pirelli is now available in a Rosso III. Andy

  9. Michelin Road 5. I did 3,000 miles to Venice and back last year and they don't even look to have been touched. I'll get my Scotland trip out of them this year and maybe another trip next year. :)

  10. Not in a 240/45/17. Andy

  11. :)
According to @El Toro ’s theory (post #2) above, that means you must ride like an old granny:D. Just saying like. :)

  12. 1000 miles wear including a track day on a Rosso II. I'd say good for about 3000 miles total. Andy 20190710_181724.jpg 20190710_181751.jpg

  13. I know :D But I wasn't on a track, I was in France, Switzerland, Italy, Germany and Austria on public roads with luggage. :innocent:

Buying sports tyres for touring is ridiculous btw.
