  1. Needs no translation, guess which is which.

  2. Not sure what this proves.
How do we know one is German and the other is Chinese?
Also, the shorter running bearing may just have more grease in it.

  3. step1: see it on separate page rather than embedded video
    step2: turn on subtitles.

I understand that this is not elaborate test of how these bearings perform.

  4. There will be a factory somewhere in German that produces poor quality bearings as likewise there will be a factory in China producing top quality bearings. Pretty pointless post and video really

Or is this going to be another one of those Don't buy anything from China or you will die threads?

  6. My brother is an electrical engineer....id say he's very good at what he does, the company he used to work for essentially built stuff for extreme endurance - ie theyd build stuff that was designed to run forever and left in remote locations, bottom of the sea, desert pipelines etc etc. They went to a trade show in Sweden I think a few years back and they were showcasing their new pump....the Chinese turned up with an identical pump and had even copied the marks that the lathe had left behind. Apparently Sweden has the most stringent copyright rules and within half an hour of "showcasing their design" the police turned up "packed everything up for them" and then put them on a plane home...I think some Chinese stuff is good - hell, the linkpipe on my hyper I took off last night has lasted well and was well made...I think its a prod a build quality....?

  7. Got to admit, I bought my son a chines 125 18 months ago brand new £1800. we took it for it's first service and that's it he rides it every day in all weathers and it's still going strong, the bolts haven't rusted and the casing haven't started corroding yet, the only thing we have changed is the chain set and 2 throttle cables.
I paid £17,245.00 for my S GT I wash it and blow dry it almost every time I go out on it, and it's kept in a heated room when I'm not on it. I washed it on Friday after a quick ride out and noticed some of the powder coating has peeled off the alternator cover and the caliper bolts went a funny colour ages ago.
I think the Italians could learn a thing or two off China.

A quick note, I'm a mechanical engineer, I change worn out bearings all the time, one of the things you notice about bearings that are worn is when you've degreased them and blown them out with an air gun they spin forever, clean a new bearing out and do the same and it still wont spin for long. You know the expression you hear when the dealer says be careful running your new bike in everything will be tight, he's not just talking about the pistons and rings he's also talking about all the bearing in the gear box (hence the advice to cycle through the gears a lot while running the bike in) and the main and big end journals.

  8. Tut-tut, your instructor would have a fit, carrying out that sort of practice.

Bearing racing on the floor, that's a different matter. Elastic bands around them work well.

  10. Now who is going to bring up Rockjock or whatever he was called on the old forum [IMG]

  11. Sadly poor old Rockjock passed away not so long back. But yes I do recall a dodgy warranty claim by Pete

  12. SHIT!!!!!!

Mr C I was never a fan of the guy, I must be honest here, he was a bit, how would I say, strong in his beliefs.

That said I am truly sorry to hear that news of anybody, let alone somebody I came into contact with, virtual or otherwise.

I guess that leave me looking a right prick then, large slice of Humble Pie please

Gettin ma coat with my head down.:Sorry:

  14. @jcmental

He was a guy who posted on the old forum before it shut down. I can only tell it from my how I saw it and from heresay from what was posted on the old forum.

RJ seemed to regard himself as bit of a Ducati guru and IMHO he was a bit of a cyber warrior. Of course how people behave in forums and face to face can be chalk and cheese, I have no clue as I never met the guy.

Anyway one of his beliefs was similar to this link

Break In Secrets--How To Break In New Motorcycle and Car Engines For More Power

He did this with a 1098 I think and not so many miles down the road suffered an engine catastrophe, the exact details escape me.

When he went for the warranty claim, Ducati (who monitor the forums from time to time) were not best amused when reading of his miracle break in procedure posted in public for all to see.

I have no idea of the final outcome.
