Different tyres for Desmosedici?

  1. I know there's a few D16 riders on here.

My BST wheels arrive next week so with 'normal' size wheels I can finally look at getting some better tyres. Any of you have recommendations for what you have found works well on the D16?

I've generally run Pirellis on my Dukes, but recently stuck some Dunlop Sportsmarts on my SupetDuke and was well impressed.

  2. I have a customer running 17's and using supercorsa BSB. Not heard any negatives from him. Pirelli or Bridgestone always seem to 'suit' so I'd have thought Rosso corsa or S20's would work equally well.

  3. What about dunlop d212's. I loved the d211 on my 848 and te sportsmarts I had previously. The d212 seem to be getting good reviews.

  4. Have you told your insurance company?

i was going to do that until Ducati Insurance said they would not cover the bike with a 17inch rear wheel.

  5. Running GP Racer 211's on mine until recently, but now they are stopping making them (unhelpful). Will no doubt switch to GP212R's going forwards maybe for track, or Sportsmarts for street as the only problem with the 211's is that even the E (endurance) tyre flattens off fast on the street on the Desmo. Needed to run a sportsmart in the summer this year when I punctured half way through rural France (and could only find a sportsmart), and to be honest, it was just as good on the street - and lasts way longer.

I tried Michelins - bike wasn't happy - whereas my 848 loved the Michelin tyres.
Tried the KR106/108 on track - bike very twitchy although loads of side grip. Hard to setup. Am going to switch back to 211/212 for track. The KR's are awesome tyres (I have a spare set if anyone wants some?) but the bike falls into corners so quickly it requires a different setup.

I hate it when you get it set up well on one particular tyre and then they change them!.....

  6. I loved the d211. On the 848 I got really good mileage using the E on the rear. No flats pots. 3 trackdays and road riding and after 2k still loads left in them.

chamb, a mates dad works for Dunlop. You want me to see if he can still get them? I was paying £150 for a set of 211 or 212's.

  7. Thanks, that's very kind. Might well be interested in getting a few sets. I tend to run the 211 slicks on track and the 211 cut on the street. I think there are a few sets of cut 211 still around but hardly any more slicks as they are now moving to the KR106/8 tyres for track. Which is a shame as they are a different profile (195/65 and 185/65) so mess up the geometry if you switch road to track as I do. You need a setup for each wheras with the 211 they are exactly the same (and the KR tyres are 50%) more expensive......

drop me a PM if you can and I might but a small stock! But if they are no longer made I will have to replace them at some point anyway, so most likely I will try and find something else.....
