Hi all, changed the belts on my 916 bip last weekend, all good. Noticed since that the bike is very reluctant to start from cold, tho once started and warmed it starts and idles on the button every time, thinking something I could have disturbed when changing the belts?...fuel tank off, air box out, plugs out battery /tray removed etc.i did put the old iridium plugs back in coz they looked OK, maybe I should have put a new set in?, battery seems ok got 12.7v with ignition on, drops to under 11v when cranking and is a steady 13.5v when at a coupla thousand revs...the bike started easily hot or cold before I did the belts...any thoughts appreciated.
Ok, battery did spring to mind, no idea how old it is, just seems odd that it was starting ok before belts got changed.
Since its OK after warm up, I would say its not a belt related issue. False voltage readings are common on batteries used more than five years, but as yours still fires the bike up, I would deem any minor voltage loss as non material. My hesitant cold starts on all my Ducati's have become a near memory of the past by replacing the factory cables with HiCap starter cables. Exact Start still sell kits like this, as does another chap with much more reasonable prices and with the same cable quality/end result. If interested, I could dig for his contact info.
Yes, I had thought about fitting the exact start cables as an upgrade, I had them on my 1198 when I had it and it made quite a difference.
14.4V at 2k is an indication of health of the charging system - not sure how it may be affected by a substandard battery. Somebody cleverer than I in these matters may be able to provide more accurate commentary.
I, for one, would be very grateful if you could post or pm the contact info for the other chap who does the cables.
