Hey everyone. Anyone recommend a decent digs / hotel on Skye ? Planning a quick overnight next weekend with a few of the lads. We normally stay at the Dorney hotel but fancy a change this year. Thanks.
flodygarry hotel book early always busy, there is a bike festival on the 19th and 20th up there. would go but got tickets for loopallu
I have stopped at the coastguard cottages at Duntulm and they were spot on. I think there is also a hotel there too. Its right up at the tip of skye. I imagine you probably want somewhere near a pub though and they are few and far between!
I was at Skye this year ( May ). When we left Dublin it was fine, then 5 days of solid rain in Scotland.Never again. When we got to Skye where you cross the bridge, you couldnt even see the island it was that bad. So........turned around, blizted through the gale force winds, torrential rain and got the ferry 5hrs later. Roads are great ( i was on the tenre ). Blitzing through water logged roads, bumpoy stretches etc, mega fun, even in the sh1t weather. The mates were on sportsbikes, snow at the top of the mountains and all. Torture. I'll stick to Germany thanks v much. Have fun Paul.
We had a cracking day on the Saturday. Couldn't have asked for a better day. Sunday was crap. But made the most of it. Ended up staying at Dornie Hotel again. Perfect for what we needed and done the Skye run on the Saturday late afternoon. Was worth the run for sure.
I'm planning a trip there next year for the w/e of 21st June to get the most daylight. Any good tips, I'll be on my Elefant rather than the Pantah!
We always end up staying at Dornie hotel hence my topic looking for other digs this time. It's £40 a head. Food is decent. Rooms are clean and ok for a night or two. We stayed there again this time in the end. it's about 10 miles from the Skye bridge but also offers other lovely routes like over to Applecross Pass etc from there. We past plenty of B&Bs to be fair on Skye so it shouldn't be an issue if you are looking to stay on Skye. We done a loop round Skye from the bridge to Portree then headed to Dunvegan then across the A863 back towards the bridge. What a lovely road. We are planning a better run next year with a full loop. I'd would recommend the Applecross Pass as a must weather permitting. And then head north out of Applecross and go up the coast road for some lovely views and roads.
Cheers for the tips! I'm in favour of camping but most of the other guys are soft shandy drinking Southerners who need a bed and someone to tuck them in! Mick, you've not seen my Elefant!
