2011 1200 ABS got 30k on the clock and I've had it from new. Minor 5 mph accident broke headlight, right hand hand guard and the plastic tank, nose plastic and side piece. The insurance are saying its a write off. They offering £6600 and I can buy it back for £2400. I have £850 excess. I can't work out whether to take the money or get the bike back . Its riding fine its cosmetic (except headlight) . They are classing as Cat D Cosmetic write off. I don't know what to do , if i get it back I guess ill never fix it and it will always be tatty. Are there places to get pattern plastic for the multi ? or non OEM headlight? Any thoughts Chris
lol judging by the PM's the consensus is buy it and sell it ! thank you all for the advice. Are there such things as non ducati headlights / plastics or is it just too neiche? I am just annoyed its written off and that i stupidly said to insurance its value was 6k . Clearly having a senior moment when i took insurance out. thx again.
£2,400 seems bloody steep, I always thought and in my experience the buy back price is 10% of write off value
My maths isnt good he said its around 40% . The more they pay me the more I have to pay. which again seems odd to me . All i know is i will lose in end , happens every time , i couldn't believe its a write off. blew me away . I rode it 300miles home, lol . pretty = pricey
My KTM was written off twat pulled out in front of me but it was same as your's Cat D cosmetic only. Insurance company valued it at £4,400 buy back option offered was £440. Get advice from someone who is in the business or Citizens advice Bureau.
When mine was written off and the front end was ripped off completely insurance wanted 8k to buy it back... Cheap deal there
There was one on eBay a few weeks ago it went for £3500 and it had a lot more damage than yours by the sound of it. I'd buy it for £2400.
Remember if you re sell it you must declare that it was a write off. Makes it much more difficult to move on, and will affect the resale value. I speak from experience of the same senior moments.
Buy it and break it. You'll easily make more than £2400.... £6600 for a 30K ABS model is a brilliant valuation (from an insurance company). I'm in the process of selling an S model (retailed for £3k more) with loads of Farkles for not much more.
Its worth £2400 all day long. I rebuilt a damaged Panigale with OEM parts off ebay, you can find some right bargain parts
Wonder if you could trackbike it...like a big SM...lose loads of weight, lights, different seat unit and, feck it, try some clip ons for size and go mega cafe racer
You no longer have to worry about dropping an expensive bike down some green lanes. Get some decent tyres and try some proper off-roading. Hush all the nay-sayers about the Ducati's off road creds. I like bradders thoughts too. I found a big SM better round small circuits than supersports bikes. Used to cane my 990 SMR round Brands.
My Yamaha fz1 was written off valued at 5.5k bought it back for £550 repaired it myself and still have it as well as my multi. Might be worth asking them why not 10% of the value as you have been told in other cases ...
