So I am going to update my bike aesthetically and also make it look more sporty. Single seat unit is the first change. First thoughts are great I don't need to have the fake exhaust air vent grills as you need to cut the holes out and put the mesh on. But then I thought it may look odd having scoops without vents. And actually it does get a bit hot under there sometimes anyway. More later on weight saving, ease of fitting and overall satisfaction but for now, cents or no vents?
One day when the IE gets the recognition it deserves and people are picking up resto dogs for a grand I will make a mould and a carbon killing!
Tell you what though the fitting on this thing is like a rubiks cube. You can't seem to get the under tray back on without blocking the access for the lights and rear mounting bolt. And if you put the lights on first you can't access the mounting points for the under tray
Done the weighing in and there is a massive 1kg saving on this unit compared to standard, so the saving is really in the removal of the grab rail, which weighed nearly 1kg. Quite thick compared to the ricambi Weiss stuff and the base on the seat seems very thick. Comes with a good mounting point for the lights which fits well
Yeah mate cut it. Get some Ti mesh in there. Look the bollox. Think these bikes are great on short circuits if you've at least half an idea and are willing to cane the tits of em and carry corner speed. Just need one of them custom under-tail exhausts to go with it so you don't have to replace the damn things every time you bin it. Yeah looks good. Who made it?
Got it from this chap in Germany Diopa - Onlineshop I am up for a Kevlar tank next year. And a koso clock and a DS plastic headlight. When you swing the bike between your legs when stationery it does feel like it carries a lot of weight high up on the bike. Will address that first and if I still have the bike after the Kevlar tank then maybe bst wheels and ohlins forks because the suspension is still standard and I do not like that either. Quote to sort the forks is 600 quid. Quite a lot. And when you consider that blinging the bike is part of the fun well maybe some ohlins and custom made triple clamps eh,
As you know they carry the battery up top so sticking a Lithium Ion battery makes as much difference as having no battery. Agreed re the forks but if you're buying used you probably need to budget for a rebuild/respring on those too. Some matching adjustable triples to go with them would do the trick. Good luck with it all - great project! What's the deal with the plastic headlamp?
The DS light is only on the 1000DS and the glass is replaced by plastic. Can't remember if it is 300 or 800g lighter. I have a lithium battery but guess what....need a new sprag clutch and the engine only has 2000 miles from new [emoji19] It is going back on though.
Yeah had to do the sprag on 1000ss recently, you gotta replace all the bits usually but maybe not in your case with such low miles hopefully it's just the bearing/spring that's gone AWOL
2003 800 SSie has the Polycarb (Plastic) H/Light too. Not sure about the later 800 SS's tho', after '03 they spec'd the SS down to the Sport and dropped the Sport from the range.
