Hello folks. A quick hello and some thoughts around European touring. I've completed around 20 self organised trips into continental Europe and done around 40k miles on a D675 in doing so. I'm at the stage now where perhaps something more comfortable might be the answer... especially as I'm looking at some two up tours going forward. I've dipped my toe in the water by hiring a 950 Multistrada V2 S for September this year ( I think that's right!) from HP Motorrad in Rome, flying in and pottering around Sicily etc for 3 weeks. Other than buying some pannier bags, I've got no further. If it goes well, I'll buy a multi of some sort (hopefully from a fastidious owner on here!) And if it doesn't, the search for the next bike will go on. I have to say they look and sound lovely. Hopefully I'll pick up some advice from the search facility on here and not be 'that guy' too often
Welcome! Can't help on the MS, but wanted to say how nice the 675 looks. Biggest mistake of my life selling my black and gold '07 one a few years ago. I should have kept it alongside my Ducatis.
Thanks for the welcome I'll never sell it. Too many memories. It costs washers to keep hanging around and has never let me down. It'd be akin to clubbing a seal pup sending her on her way! I just need a bigger garage for the very odd fleet I'm developing
Welcome along (is that you Si?) youll find this place a bit busier than the 675 forum Good luck with the trip and the new steed.
Welcome to the forum ProfessionalWhistler. The MTS is a bit different from riding a triple, I came from an MV 800 prior to my 1260, albeit a similar form factor being a Turismo. Very happy with it though, Quite a few tours thus far; Dolomites, Portugal, Ardennes, Normandy and Corsica. Good for solo and two-up. Great idea to hire before you buy, especially on a tour
Indeed it is SW73. I see you've reinvented yourself and moved up in the world Red . LOL. Jen's decided to save herself by no longer throwing herself up the road at high speed, instead climbing on the back and hoping for the best. Great to hear from you. July 7th - 9th a few of us are having a get together if you're in a position and don't mind a small capacity run out. I'm hiring a multi which will probably work out about £2550 for 3 weeks....but will save time/money in getting from the frozen north to Italy. Time will tell but a out time I had ABS maybe . Drop me a DM. I think I'm too new to be allowed.
Thanks for the welcome. The whole feel of the bike (I've only sat on one not ridden it) is very different to the D675 but vaguely familiar to my CRF 250 Rally. I'd imagine the similarities end when you switch it on and set off! It's not often I chance upon a good idea but I thought as it'd take a whole heap of time and money to get to Italy, I'll try hiring first. Carrying a pillion no doubt changes things again. If all goes well.... I'll be scouring the classifieds come October.
You may find the 1260, with a bit more grunt, a better bet for loaded two up touring. Not saying that the v2 isn't capable though.
I wondered about that so thought I'd hire the nine fiddy. If it turns out I need more grunt....the right bike will be the 1260. I'm guessing there'll be all sorts of suspension permutations, carbon bits etc difference and loads of options etc but hopefully essentially if the 950 is labouring two up...get one with more power and torque. More money though so my thinking was I might try and save money on the bike I'll use pottering around with Jen on the back. No doubt until I see a 1260, watch my eyes go big and start smashing open kids piggy banks!
Just as an aside, I've just paid the £5 to become a member and support the forum. Always a good thing to do given the time and effort folk go to in helping others etc. I just wonder whether it might be worth pointing out it's an option when you sign up? I'd no idea til I saw someone get the belt for selling without joining and being nudged to do so. Now it may be it's obvious and I'm blind! Very possible. But I didn't see it . Looking forward to some Multistrada action soon.
I would...but sadly it's a question of finance! I have a Daytona 675 and a CRF 250 Rally for green laning. This will be a third bike for twice a year, two up tours. Now, once I've rented the 950 for 3 weeks and pottered around Italy I may be better informed but all I'm after is something comfortable, that handles and makes a nice noise. That may turn out to be a 1260. If it turns out to be a V4, I've won the lottery and milky bars are on me! They do look fabulous though
I wouldn’t dismiss a Moto Guzzi V85TT. Fast? No! But full of charm and character and for touring around on taking in the sights is probably just the thing. That said there is not much wrong with a 950S. If I was buying another Multi tomorrow that’s probably what I would buy.
I love the v85 TT in Kalahari and test rode one. That I suspect is yet another bike I'd love...but it doesn't have the capability of a multi. Hmmm. Choices, choices...
