Has anyone ever experienced this? I have a multi 1200 and whenever it rains or when I cross a puddle I naturally clean the bike afterwards "Done". The next day on a sunny clean day I ride a little bit and Lo and behold the whole rear is full of dirt like sand mixed with water and this continues for days. I also noticed when I lean the bike to the right water comes out passing through the brake caliper. When all the water comes out it no longer spews dirt. Is this normal? Is there something wrong with my bike?
Hi - you can relax - just below the rear shock is a small hole, which allows water and small bits of grit to drain through the swing arm. The fluid then drains out underneath (near the rear brake caliper) where you can see a small hole if you look. Either of these holes can block so worth gently poking a small bit of wire in to keep them patent occasionally. Gave me a fright first time it happened as well!
Oh thank you so much guys I'm comforted already I'll just plug both holes and problem solved. What do you all think?
What will happen if I plug the holes? What is the purpose of those holes? Will the water make its way to the rear bearings if left unplugged?
I wanna get this right there's a hole under the shock I saw it and plugged it already. Took the bike round the block and there was still dirt around the rear wheel afterwards it was a dry ride no rain or puddles then I noticed water coming out slowly under the rear caliper. It may still be the remaining water before I plugged the hole. The Ducati dealer told me to keep riding till all the water came out. Is there another hole near the caliper? When you put wire in the hole near the shock as mentioned did the problem stop? I feel the bike cannot be ridden clean it wasn't like this before were you able to solve the problem completely? Please help me.

Have you adjusted the chain lately? Reason being, when the hub clamps are loosened to adjust the chain tension, then water can and usually does escape. Once tightened back up, it stops. Might be worth checking the hub clamps are done up properly....
I wouldn't block these drain holes as they ventilate / drain the swing arm. Try allowing some water to run through the one at the top just under the shock, you will then see it running out below at the back. Hopefully if both are clear, water will not run out anywhere else!
I will check it and get back to you. I haven't tightened he chain since I bought the bike only changed the tire. The wire lock has not tightened so the wheel hasn't gotten loose but I'll ck the hub clamps.
I had the chain tightened today sure enough it was wet in between the hub clamps I tightened the chained which had gotten too loose and the Hub clamps as well. There was still some water and dirt coming out from the caliper on the way home from the tire center but I think it was residual. The space between the hub clamps was dry. One more ride and I'll know for sure.
