V4 Dirty, Dirty Girl

  1. I’ve been trying to put some miles on my new V4. The weather has been bright a few times but the roads are pretty wet and mucky but it’s not like I’ve been riding through farm yards!

I’m amazed quite how dirty the bike gets though. I’ve got the ‘flaps’ on order (but they are waiting for a couple of parts) so I’m hoping they help keep some of the muck off the rear at least.

  2. These bikes get dirty quite easily, it’s actually quite upsetting. Here’s my Pikes Peak after riding through a flood in France; I didn’t sleep properly until I cleaned it!

  3. The V4 gets very dirty very quickly - far more so than previous Models of the Multi. The flaps (when closed) will stop your legs getting quite so dirty but the rear of the bike will still get just as dirty. The good news is that they clean up pretty well :)

  4. And don't say I haven't told you so before.............
So, not only is the V4 one of the ugliest 'bags of spanners' to look at, they also do a great impression of a trials bike that's been green-laneing, even when used on the road as is normal for most users.:no_mouth:
By the way, bikes and vehicles in general, DON'T have to be, aren't always necessarily, female FGS!

    :confused::scream:

  5. Good to see bikes doing what they are designed for :D
Miss my girl one of the things I enjoyed was cleaning her after and putting her away all shiny

My mini is a girl too :D

  7. Oi @TonyMNo1, keep your prejudices to yourself and mind your own beeswax! ;)

Actually my legs didn't get that dirty.

Might not look as good as the old 1260 but it's a big improvement to ride.

PS Bikes are always girls, any fool knows that....

  8. Not that I have a V4, but that rear hugger looks more like a token offering rather than something that might actually stop most of the spray. It barely reaches the centre line, no wonder the dirt has a field day.
I wonder if Pyramid or the like would be tempted to produce a hugger extension, as they do with their much needed front mudguard extender.

  10. I've fitted Pyramid Hugger and Fenda Extenders from new so can't say if they make that much difference.

I've not been tempted to fit a Givi spray guard :)

  11. I know they are a bit ugly, as they are on the 1200/1260, but I wouldn't be without one on my 1260 as they are very effective.
It's up to you, whether you think being covered in crap is less offensive to the eye that a rear splash guard on what is, in truth, not the most eye pleasing Ducati model. As far as I'm concerned, it is always that form should follow function, though I'm not well known for my aesthetic sympathies

  13. I've often wondered why manufacturers don't offer an 'all weather' option from new.

  16. What the V4......?
On that I categorically agree with you and that doesn't occur that often Pierre, as you undoubtedly know already.:relieved:

  17. No that horrible fender extension!

  18. Not just multis that get dirty. Here’s a shot of my old Pani R. What a way to treat a thoroughbred:p IMG_2699.jpeg

  19. Lets face it, no motorcycle can be dirt proof in any meaningful way, it is exposed to all the crap on the road all the time.
The upside to that is that it is very satisfying to clean and polish, and that also gives you a chance to find little things that might need some attention. It's an important part of owning a motorcycle.
