899 Disc Bolts

  1. will titanium bolts be ok for disc bolts ? Read somewhere they need to be steel for a sensor to work? Maybe abs or something....

  2. There will be a sensor on the front wheel and you will either have a ring bolted to the disc ala 1200 Multistrada or the disc will have a shaped bobbins ala 1098R. The disc bolt is unlikely to affect this. Andy

  3. Not sure about titanium, but may grades of stainless steel bolts disk kits are not suitable even I thay are sold as such.

The reason is that many, but not all, stainless bolts lack the tensile strength to resist the torque applied across them by the act of braking and they will, eh . . . break!

High tensile steel bolts are however generally fine from what I've been told and that's why they are generally fitted as standard.

I'm sure some metallergist or engineer will be along shortly to give a more detailed explanation and perhaps answer regarding the use of titanium?

Doubt that the material has got anything to do with the sensor though.

  5. Ti bolts on mine aswell with No issues

  6. The Abs works off the ring not the bolts so will be fine

  7. Maybe you were thinking of the 999 speedo sensor that reads off the rear disc bolts.
I got round this by embedding steel ball bearings in clear silicone in the Allen heads of the bolts.
