Went down to Micheldever tyres this afternoon and had a pair of Metzler Racetech K3s fitted to my track wheels and was well pleased, £250 fitted. On the way back I dropped into a mates and borrowed his Abba stand so I could strip out the Ohlins in preparation for a trip to JHS Racing. Everything went as smooth as silk until I withdrew the left hand fork leg out of the yokes. Some stupid bas**ard had tie wrapped the speedo cable to the caliper bracket and the cable has worn a deep groove in the forkleg and dust seal - bugger ! Just hope the guys at JHS can do something otherwise I'm looking for a replacement fork leg outer before Spain in February. Andy
I'm sure JHS will be able to do something mate, just pre-warn them before u go so they can tell u of there is no chance, they may even have some parts that they can build u up something.
Wasn't looking for oil when I cleaned the bottom of the fork leg and caliper mount which was before I found the groove in both the fork leg and the seal. Pumping the fork leg it sounds like there is air in it and it feels like its got washing up liquid instead of oil. Still, it's with JHS now and they'll let me know in the fullness of time. Andy
Just got an update from JHS, although ugly, the damage is cosmetic. Biggest issue was the Tate & Lyle black treacle that was trying to do an impersonation of fork oil which accounted for the crappy action. Still, the forks will get a full service and new springs, 9 instead of 9.5, and I should get them back early next week. Andy
You should have seen the oil that came out my Daytona forks when JHS did it, it was 2 year old and had done 3000 miles and it was like treacle, took about 15 mins for it all to drain out.
Don't think my forks had been touched since the bike was originally bought in 2001. Interesting lesson though, perhaps we should be considering a fork oil change every two or three years as a matter of course. Well it's got me thinkng. Andy
Well, it's always been said that it should be done tbh but it almost always gets overlooked. I would always get the spring and calving done at the same time having felt the difference it made to the Daytona
Just taken delivery of the serviced forks via DPD. Can't speak highly enough of the service JHS racing have given me and I have to say the courier DPD gave a surprisingly excellent service as well. I had texts and e-mails to say when they had been collected from JHS (Friday late pm) and when, to within an hour, they would deliver, which they did (14:00 today). It's all coming together now so I know what I'm doing over the next few weeks . Andy
