Ditch The Rubbers

  1. Hi All

Recently took the rubbers off the foot pegs of the 821HMSP, what a difference, especially in this cold and slippy season that is upon us.

I found with the rubbers on, my feet would slip and slide when trying to get any kind of weight through the pegs, on a couple of occasions, my foot would slip entirely off the peg.

Now with the rubber removed, the prongs bite into the sole of my boot making the whole experience more "motoX" on these damp roads. Weight forward, over the tank, almost standing on the pegs, you can move your body left or right with ease and take liberties with the throttle I never thought possible. You can use the outer edge of the peg much more effectively, increasing the leverage which make direction changes much more rapid.

The rubber inserts pop out really easily, just apply a bit of pressure with you thumb from below and out they come. First ride without, felt a little odd, since the peg is much flatter sans bung, you have to relearn the action with your left foot, but, if you do it, stick with it, several rides later, its just second nature now.

Been out today, cold, greasy, slippery roads covered in leaves and autumn swill, but, shit, this bike is just the bomb, as much fun as a summers eve (almost), how it sticks to the road and promotes confidence to try a little bit harder, i just don't know...but, shit, its magic!

  2. Aren't you afraid of, uh, diseases? Unwanted pregnancies?

    You crazy!

  3. I agree, today was cold, greasy...but still great fun. The Hyper gives great confidence even in the wet. Got caught out in the rain so bike was filthy by the time I got back.

  4. Los: LOLz - but i can feel so much more without the rubber!

Moses, same here.. damm good scrubbing when i got back and a coating of ACF50, bike will be parked in my kitchen for the next 2 weeks, whilst I'm away with work :((

  5. By the time you come back it'll be rusted away!
Picked mine up last weekend, done 200 miles in the dry and the brake discs and some of the bolts look worse than on my 09 kxf crosser! FFS! Not happy!

  6. Diavlo: used mine quite a lot in the rain and the generally shite weather the last couple of months and apart from the chain looking a bit neglected, its in pretty good shape.

Its kept outside under a cover, when I'm at home, and I expected it to turn to brown dust given others comments along the same lines as yours, but so far, so good...must have landed a good un...!

  7. You should check out some of comfysofa's threads as he has done a lot to winterproof his bike. I've had mine over 5 years and its not faired too badly seeing as it's so exposed. I've had to replace a fair few bolts though.

I agree with Dave - it feels much better without the rubber!

  8. yep - ive got more stuff planned....a couple of weeks back I had the seat off while I was messing around with the mudguard and all the bolts that hold the electrics down and connect up the heavy duty cables were corroded so badly I couldn't make out that they had allen key holes...essentially just brown lumps...

The engine underside is the bit im having to pay most attention to just to stop the corrosion I have to brush it with neat sdoc100 and then hose it off and dry it....

If and when the motor has to come out at that point ill get it stripped, blueprinted and then while its apart get everything coated in Xylan, im not wishing it to happen but in a way don't mind when it does.....while the motor is out ill get to all those hard to get to places and replace probably with titanium bolts seeing as they'll never be gotten to again for the foreseeable.

  9. I still maintain that Ducati are the catalog worst for coatings....my RSV4 has done more miles, gets treated the same way and hardly anything on that has corroded plus its 2 years older as well - nothing has had to be powdercoated on it either....any bolts I change over are not out of necessity on it - just for cosmetic value....

Actually I tell a lie - while I had the top off of the engine the frontward facing exhaust studs were rusted which I switched out with stainless and the 6 small bolts that hold the 2 fans to the rad were rusted also....from what I recall a sum total of 16 quid. Reckon ive spent over 200 on fixings for the hyper...rough guess...

  10. It's one.of the reasons I bought a belly pan.

  11. Yeah - have looked for them but can never find one....

  12. Where did you get it from and which models does it fit?
    Cheers,
    Moses

  13. I'll get some better photos and the link where I had it later when I'm home. 20140907_042841.jpg

  14. It was from this seller on ebay.

    powerkarbonplanet | eBay

You can have it in fibre glass or carbon. I had fibreglass. painted and posted from Italy was £150 (190 euro) he wanted 220 euro but I offered that and he accepted.

If you search belly pan in this forum there more photos of it on and off my bike
