I recently did the 15K service myself and wanted to share what I have learned for others to see what's involved and maybe inspire other do it yourselfer's out there. I'm not a Ducati mechanic just a motorcycle enthusiast who likes the satisfaction of working on my own bikes and saving money My resources for this project were the official Ducati workshop manuel, Ducati Desmoquattro Maintenance & Modification Guide and CA Cycle Works. Below is the PhotoBucket link to how I successfully checked & adjusted my valves. Hope you enjoy. Ducati Multistrada 1200 Valve Check and Adjustment :: IMG_0714.jpg picture by cessnatpa - Photobucket
Brilliant CessnaTPA Thanks a million! I looked at all your pics....mmmm it looks like a really big job! No wonder the dealers ask so much! Great work on your side though, not only did you do the job, but you photographed it too! Fantastic!
fantastic and excellent write up, the major service is obviously beyond my clumsy mechanic skills but you never know one day may attempt it. how about a minor service step by step - anyone got it ? maybe thats a more straightfoward/easier way in to get some confidence. Bugs
Anyone know if this document Ducati Desmoquattro Maintenance Guide by LT Snyder is available from a UK source? Looked on eBay but couldn't find it on there, although if you look at the bottom of the page on the link someone from the UK claims to have bought one from eBay....
Probably second hand?.........looks to me that LTS is the sole distributor of his book but I've emailed him and asked for confirmation ;-) Great 'how to' guide Tony, you got there in the end! Thanks again for sharing, I think we all appreciate the time and effort it takes to put something together like this
Why not just email him and ask him to send a PayPal invoice with the correct (us$19) p&p cost? ;-) LT AT desmotimes DOT com
This is what makes forums and threads like this so indispensable. Not just great pictures and 'how to' but all the spin off info that comes with them. Big Thanks to Cessna.
Very good write up ....a picture tells a thousand words , question......... i understand the opeing adjustment with the shims just like normal bucket follower type shims really ,but what adjusts the closing clearance , will it be the other retainer thats underneath the valve collets were the closing foot is ?
You are correct and I should of been more clear, my closeing clearances all were fine so I didn't need to replace/adjust the closer shims. I'll have to add that to my write up, thanks for pointing that out.
