I was with a mate yesterday on a bike hunt for him, we did a few around the north west and ended up at DMC to look at a white 1198 but when we got there it was close! And as we sat there planning are next move about 5 more potential customers turned up, today he bought a bike from mmc, I hope they had a nice Sunday off and can turn business away
You snooze you lose. I remember when there would be no shops open on a sunday, now theres no shops shut anymore. What did he get in the end an 848 in Red
What do you expect ? My local dealer is an independant employing 2 salesmen, 2 in parts, a workshop manager and 3 technicians to man the workshop for 5 and half days a week and sales and parts for 6 days a week. I too remember when at Easter the shops were closed from Thursday evening to Tuesday morning and at Christmas and New Year some shops closed for the full 8 days. I'm not going to critisise the place for closing for 1 day. Andy
Sorry mate, I don't agree. If you are selling 1000s of Fords or Nissans you are in competition. When you are selling 10s or if you are lucky 100s of units your market is limited and your customers are loyal to a greater extent. If I went looking for a Ducati I wouldn't end up buying a Blade however competent a bike it is just because the shop was closed which is the impression I got. I don't do impulse with a bike and anyway I'm lucky to enjoy what I've got, a 1200s Multi and a 748R. Andy
Think I'm right in saying they are a sister shop of DM and that's why I went to Woods to buy a bike which are open on a Sunday, I had good intentions of buying a Triumph Daytona but came out with a Ducati
So matey should open his shop, on the off chance someone walks thru the door, on a really nice sunday when most are out riding, who isn't a waster and will buy a bike? Unless there is a decent cafe and lots of smaller stuff to buy, I wouldn't be either. A 1198 is nothing like a blade I blame Tesco and B&Q, they have single handedly ruined family life in the UK
It's simple really if your not open you don't sell and don't make money, they also sell leathers which I wanted to look at, we went to the rocket centre after that where got myself some new leathers so they missed out twice.
You would think larger dealers would open on a Sunday and close another day when they employ enough staff to be able to rota the weekends, but even some huge ones close on Sunday such as Padgett's of Batley - fair play to them if they can and still do well... although some of his staff were manning the Suzuki Roadshow at Sherburn in Elmet on Sunday.
Yep close a day during the week when you can fill the workshop...because every mechanic will love to work a sunday
How good would that be getting your bike serviced on a Sunday !! I have to work all year round next time you go off on your holidays at the weekend take alook out of the plane window and see how many are at work so can have a nice time with your family and you can have alook in the Ducati shop before you go even on a Sunday
Yep would be great. Suggest you go to your local Infinity supermarket and enjoy the first class personal service. Where they know you name when you come in and everyone is so happy they have the same staff for 20 years
Closed Sunday closed half day Wednesday closed for an hour for lunch how did we ever buy anything, big shopping day is Sunday
Dunno, its a mystery. I mean we now have families never sitting at dinner together as parents works over 7 days and 15 hr opening times, not being able to get the same time off work because of shift and rota patterns..why did we ever bother having relationships when all we needed was 24/7 opening, easy line of credit and tech which allows conversation without seeing anyone? I'm convinced. Its the future
I get all that from woods who are open I can buy a bike, leathers or a mars bar think we should of gone south not north
Both of them? I agree with the original OP - the weekend is when most people go to look at bikes. Closing for 50% of that "window" just doesn't make sense to me. I'm pretty sure I bought my 848 on a Sunday but to be honest, that was more about the bike than the shop. During the last several months of visiting bike shops, trying lots of bikes, DMC were probably the most helpful and friendly along with J&S in Northwich. If I was specifically looking for a Ducati in the NW, I'd make sure my Saturday was free to visit DMC and the one in Sale, Manchester.
I go to J&s most Sundays when I am off first impressions of DMC they are closed On Sundays so wouldn't know what kind of service they provide and that is my point
