Do I have it in right?

  1. So I changed the headlight bulb and it doesn't look right?

Put the new one in the exact same way I removed the old one

Wondered if the previous one was not in correctly. Any how the 'd' shape is at the top on the SS and on my FZ1 it's at the bottom.

    Any ideas?

  2. You can get these bulbs in the wrong way up, that's why you sometime see car's with one light brighter than the other, one bulb is upside down. I believe the "d" is ment to be at the bottom. There's a shield on the low beam element that deflects the light down. I've never removed my headlight but could it be fitted upside down??

  3. Hi Lumbux

You got a point there!!! I will check it out and let you know.

    Appreciate that :)

  4. have you turned in on, see what it looks like?

  5. Yes it didn't look that good to be honest

  6. probably answers your question, spin it round and have a look at how that is. If its the right part, I find it may take a while but a jigsaw it only really fits properly one way

  7. look at the three tangs for the connector and the three tangs on the metal body. The tang directly above the connector horizontal tang is "up".

When you hold it like this, the flat in your photo will probably be at the bottom, and the flat plate you can see in the bulb itself towards the front will be horizontal also. :)

  8. When fitted correctly, the shield on the low beam element is above the element, not below it.......How's that?

  9. Ahh so the little shield is sitting ontop as it were of the element so forcing the light to shine down only?

Pic would be great if you got any :) :)

  10. I don't bl*8dy know.......it's probably the other way up to get the light to shine upwards into the reflector, for that to force it downwards.........

Wait a few minutes and I will go and check my spare headlight and bulb.....

  11. OK....My phone battery is dead, but I'm sitting here with a headlamp and bulb from a carbed SS.

The bulb from the rear view has three connection spades, the single one is at the top, but slightly turned to the right.

With the bulb retainer out of the way, you can see the rear of the bulb rim / flange.....Just above the pilot light socket, at the bottom there are a couple of locating tags which face forward and locate in a rectangular recess in the lamp itself....Again they are slightly off the vertical so the bulb appears be turned slightly to the right from the rear.

With the bulb out, the shield sits below the top element and is supported on a pin from the bottom element.........This makes the shield seem to be at the bottom......the shield is bowl shaped and the opening of the bowl is 'upward'.

  12. Right AL, I get you I think :)

I will take it out again and double check. Thanks for going to all the effort to help

Thanks to everyone for your help as well

Will share another pic when I put it back

  13. My headlight will still be in the kitchen by midday on Wednesday.........

  15. Hi AL, cheers for the image, much appreciated.

So it was potentially in upside down. Spun it round and put it back. Stil looks funny from the front

Had a look at my Italian/English service manual I got of the web and that shows it in differently.

How can this be do difficult ???
