916 Do I Just Batter These Rear Wheel Lugs Out?

Discussion in '748 / 916 / 996 / 998' started by Davyd, Feb 21, 2023.

  1. I’m trying to remove these rear wheel locating lugs. The bolt comes out but how do I remove the pointed lugs. Are they held in with locktite or similar. Any help would be great. 13092E82-B11B-4892-A854-DF593D6413ED.jpeg

  2. An interference fit, you need to heat them up. Andy

  3. Thank you sir.

  4. My question would be why do you want to get them out?

I have no idea of the grade of fit, but If they are a heavy press interference fit, you will most likely damage the surfaces, meaning they wont reassemble properly. It would then require machining the holes and getting oversize pins manufactured.

  5. I've taken a set out before to recondition the whole assembly. I seem to remember they weren't that hard to remove by just punching them out.

  6. A couple of mine fell out a couple of weeks after I bought the bike because the wheelnut hadn't been torqued up!

Unfortunately, it buggered up the carrier and the wheel in the process...

  7. Thanks for the info guys. I think I’ll heat them and beat them out. As it looks like it’s been done before.

  8. If they have been loctited in, heat is your friend. Over 250 Degrees C should degrade all variants.
