749 Do You Guys Share Pc Maps?

  1. Do you guys share maps?

Over on my old ZX10r forum we started a thread where people would share their maps and have a general natter about mapping and the like.

The reason I ask is I am struggling to get this PC3 adjusted just so. I have done all of my previous bikes with good effect but they are all inline 4's and hence all have the same length exhaust and diameter. This V Twin and awkward exhaust arrangement is proving to be a lot more difficult to master.

For example, if I smoothly roll on the throttle the power feels crisp but if I crack the throttle full open I get a hesitation before it accelerates, this gets less noticeable the higher in the revs I am. I have had to lean the mix at low revs/>50% throttle quite a lot to achieve this already. As a side note I have temporarily added fuel up top to be on the safe side and I'll concentrate on that later.

I really don't want dyno time as that is stupidly expensive for something I can do here. Do any of you tune at home too or is it just me, I'm not cheque book tuner but I fear I may be into sometime very complicated.

  2. unlike jap 4's, a ducati twin needs setting up per cylinder. Thats why spending a few quid on a dyno session with someone who knows ducati twins (ie a specialist - not a common or garden dyno bloke) gets the fuelling right. I have seen ducatis set up by people who didnt figure out the per cylinder mapping and it was laughable.

  3. A few quid? What dyno do you use?

Its much more satisfying to work from home if you can.

  4. What is the name of the well known Somerset based company that tunes Ducati?

  5. CJS Racing is just south of Bristol? Chris transformed my 999 with a day on the Dyno...

  6. That's the one. I tried a couple of maps from the PC website today and they are truly awful. My map is already WAY better than theirs ;) What I did notice though - DJ add a fuck load more fuel to Cylinder 2.

  7. The thing with PC maps is that they are overlays on to the ECU map. Ducati need basic setting up to work with that map. TPS needs setting, balance and fuel CO levels need to be right. If these are wrong with just an ECU in place then it's not going to run well.
PC's often get fitted to correct a poorly set up bike. Often there's no need for a PC in the first place....
The maps available on line, whilst working well enough with the bike they were developed for, may not be anywhere close for your bike. Without knowing the basic setup of the original bike, you could well be working from a completely different set of figures.
Where PC's are concerned, I always set up the fuelling to normal service levels with a zero map in the PC before any tuning is done with the PC. That way there's always a datum to work with.
The map you have tried adding loads of fuel to the rear cylinder was probably written on a bike that had had the rear air bleed opened up at some point to raise the idle...... The front rarely gets touched as its a pain to get to to ;)

  8. Noted. The bike is now set well before any PC added ;) I can get the PC to tick.over perfectly. I need a sniffer!

With regards to the online maps. I thought and knew it would be awful but was interested to see where theirs differed from mine.
