So do you? Was in town yesterday and got fed up of the din, tickover is bad enough but first gear on and offs just sounded like I was riding a bag of spanners
The rattle is its sole and its communicating with you. Be at one with your Italian beauty and every now and again just listen to what she is telling you . Oh just realised I forgot to take my medication this morning!!!!!!!!!!!
Ps I do have an open cover, I kinda want people to hear my termis and not have them think I'm riding something that sounds fucked.( not that I should care)
I do and I don't. Recently changed back to a closed cover to dampen the sound as I too was fed up of having to explain the dry clutch thing. I think open covers are a little to bling for my current tastes.
I've never managed to hear it cause there's alway someone playing the dam tambourine in the backround!
If I'm completely honest I wish the clutch was wet and quiet. To me it sounds mechanically wrong. I know rattly clutches are a Ducati thing but even Ducati are changing over to wet/quiet clutches so soon it will be a case of 'they WERE a Ducati thing' and we'll all wonder why we defended it for so long. I love my Ducati so it's depressing when I hear people laugh and say that my bike sounds like a bag of nails. Does anyone know anyone who thinks it sounds great who isn't already a Ducati owner or a wannabe? If so they are probably deaf. If I could buy Ducati update parts to convert mine to wet/quiet I would do it in a heart beat.
You can get kits to convert the 848 wet clutch to a dry one like the 1098, so I guess there could be a dry clutch to wet clutch conversion kit. You'd probably be shot at the checkout que by some traditionalist Ducati nut tho!
For me it depends on the bike. If it is a race bike or close derivative then it is part of the package and contributes to the overall feel and character ... my 996 SPS and my RGV250SP both have loud, proud open dry clutches and I wouldn't change them even if I could. Otherwise no. I wouldn't want a dry clutch on my SuperDuke, I think the wife's 620 Monster is definitely best off without one, and I keep the clutch on my ST4s closed-in and as muted as possible. I think it is a real shame that Ducati is moving away from dry clutches for the superbikes - a wet clutch is fine for the Multistroodles, Drivels, Munters, Streetfarters and Hypermoturds but for the superbikes I think the dry clutch is an important part of the Ducati DNA (trellis frame and belts too for what it is worth).
I've got open clutch and I'm not bothered about the sound. If it gets louder it may become a bit annoying. When I had closed cover I could barely hear it.
I hate having a wet clutch !!!!!! It is the one thing I would kill to have is a nice dry one that rattles I would kill to have a dry clutch on my 600.
I've grown tired of my converted dry clutch on my 848. Like the clean thump of the termi's over the clatter of the clutch sound
You should hear my bike.....it rattles like a pre-Evo Harley; and that's with a wet clutch....F knows what it would be like with a dry one. AL.
