Hi All.. I was thinking about the iconic 916 the other day and how their prices are starting to climb.. It got me thinking.. Do you think in say ten years plus the Panigale will become a collectible too.. If so which model.. The tricolore, or the R, perhaps the superleggera.. Or maybe the 1299.. What do you think.. Be interested to know.. X NOODS
I reckon they are going to sell a shed load more 1299 than 1199 now they have made it friendlier so can't see it becoming valuable but perhaps the R version for the usual reasons. I was just looking at 916 for sale and there are Senna editions for £30k!
no not until it win a a title its not that good looking compared with the legendary 916 and defiantly isn't a game changer, paniugly but its a matter of choice
Panigale and multistradas will be very collectable in 10 years, there wont be many about all rusted away, broken down and scrapped,so buy one of each and put them in your garage and never use them, thats what i do
I reckon the original 1199s will be. Its a real brutish, raw bike. That yoke Honda release, the RCV rep, what a joke. The D16RR is more of a GP rep and its not as ridiculous as the money of the honda.
Anything produced in large numbers won't be collectable IMHO. Superleggera? tick. Desmo? tick. Standard 11/1299? Nah don't think so. Look at what's high value these days. It seems to be Japanese imports which were in the country in small numbers (there were a couple of Hondas for silly money on eBay) and LC's...not sure why...nostalgia I expect. Even the 916 (whilst desirable) isn't a true collectors bike unless its got 0 miles.....and what's the point of that. I'd derive more pleasure riding it than watching it gather dust to sell for a few thousand more than I paid for it.
Anything that reminds people of their youth will be. Look at 80's & 90's hot hatches climbing now. 916 will because of Foggy. Won't matter on the model, but specials will always rise more. First and last edition always seem to do well, 1st year R1 and Fireblade are worth double of yr 2 edition. Game changers seem like good investment. That's why I asked why, if Ducati change to V4, should you get the last twin superbike or first v4?
My 848 evo corse should be worth a fortune as the last of the trellis framed Ducati sports bikes......but it won't be :Arghh:
Special editions will be collectigale whatever happens, I reckon. But I think it also depends on the landscape. Not many superbikes are selling like they used to. And when all this GS inspired shit finally fvcks off, people will return to them. And from this era there will not be many to choose from. And then what if we adopt some tossy Eruo 150bhp limit for new bikes in ten years....all these bikes will sky rocket in value like 2 strokes have.
What do you mean the GS inspired shiite? There are bikes for everyone's taste. Not everyone wants to hang onto a bike. Some of us want to get there, in comfort, with some food, change of clothes, maybe even a good book. Fuck it, I can't afford a C90
Ah wise man. Panic pani are not or will ever be true classic. The pani is dull, it's a nothing bike, overpriced sport bike.
Did anyone think that a Fizzy would be collectable, and with 10 times more than it cost new after 40 yrs? Not to mention some of the prices of of some of the 70's Jap stuff, so who knows?
