What would you do? Got my bike back yesterday after having the rear shock unit replaced because it broke after 2500 miles. It had cut out on me at very low speeds twice too. All fixed, they said. Did 130 miles on it yesterday and it was faultless, as far as I could tell. Did 30 miles today then had to put fuel in. All ok so far. 3 miles up the road, I went for an overtake in 3rd at about 60mph. As I got alongside the car, the bike cut out on me and I had to abort and pull over to the verge. It started up again fine but cut out as soon as I put it into first gear. Back to neutral and it started up again fine. Into first and cut out again. Repeated a few times. Then tried with second gear instead with the same results. Third got it going and I was able to pull away. Cut out again a few miles later. Went through all the above again. And again and again for another 20 miles until I got home. I'd think it was dodgy fuel if it wasn't staying on and purring like a kitten in neutral. So do I go to Trading Standards or another regulatory body to check the fuel, or go back to the dealer and tell them there's still a problem? I'm gutted (again) and can't think about anything else :-(
Check your side stand switch, that could cause that problem Or if bike still under warranty, get it back to dealer !
As the boys have just done your shock check the Neutral light switch on the back of the gear box ....maybe no quite as good a connection as you need. That also stops the bike from starting/running
You didnt put diesel in?? Empty the tank out into petrol cans and refill with new fuel, see how that goes? I have recently had a lot of fuelling problems, bike running like crap - to find out all it needed was new sparkplugs.
Mine started doing this a couple weeks ago ... My guess was the side stand cut out switch as it first kept doing it when engaging gear , I was due a interim service and mentioned it to the dealer , they said they checked it out and could find nothing wrong but if it persisted then bring it back , Since getting the bike back its been fine apart from cutting out once while overtaking a car just as yours did , I still suspect the side stand cut out switch as this could still affect the bike when in motion if theres a loose or corroded connection in there Its easy and obvious to blame dodgy fuel but in all my many years of experience with motoring problems it very very rarely is , mine ran perfectly when in nuetral as well so it cant be a fuel prob
Thanks all for your thoughts. The dealer is collecting it today and leaving me his demo MTS while they look at it.
