I happen to have seen a couple of low mileage 749s from dealers on fleabay and before i pop over to have a look in person i thought id ask if anyone has had an dealings, good or otherwise with either of them? The first is SD motorcycles in Chesterfield and the second is Bike Rite in Bradford. I have googled BikeRite and seen a Swedish bloke doing a one man hatchet job to get a significant issue resolved, which worked by all accounts, but id rather have a first hand perspective. Any info is appreciated!
I believe BikeRite is the retail outlet for WeBuyAnyBike.com or one of those similar internet based buyers. Bike could be great but also could be a lemon as certainly in my next door neighbour's case, it's the last stop for someone who couldn't get what they wanted for it whether it was worth it or not. Don't know nor have I heard about SD. Andy
Moto Guzzi with cams made of cheese. Had an awful lot of work done to put it right when he later learned the remedial work only replaced like with like instead of an upgrade. Real shame because the bike rode really well but you could realistically expect only 10,000 miles before the cams went soft again. Andy
( just saying ) the two in chesterfield are ser 1 models ( grey swing arm , etc. ) not the later ( better ) ser 2.
Im not mithered which series i get, ive had a good read about the earlier ones and what mods/upgrades to do. Ritebike sounds iffy, although its only 20 miles away so i might pop over and see what kinda first impressions i get.
SD are a decent outfit. I've known Sean for a good many years now. The red 749S they have in has been one of my customers bike for a while. Either bike, being Ducati, will probably come over to my place for a service prior to sale. I'd buy a bike off them.....
Rite Bike buy cheap and sell cheap - the whole business works on volume. They still barter a little too. If it's a lemon then they didn't notice when they bought it, check it out as the customers service is cheap too by all accounts. I bought a 999S off them and sold it to a dealer a year or so later for a profit. I still have a very low mileage MV750S4 Evo 3 I got off them cheap too, probably up £1 to £2K if I sell that - so no complaints from me. Just check the bike, the history and take your chance
( everyone to their own , but ) there are multiple and expensive changes needed to bring a ser 1 up to ser 2,, why bother when it is all there and cheaper.
They don't need doing. Some prefer the look of the black swing arm but it's only cosmetic really. And requires a new link exhaust. Mk1 is the best anyway as I have one.
Speaking of apparently dodgy dealers, what do you lot make of this..... Look at this on eBay 2000 W DUCATI 748 R | eBay Says low milage and at 8k id agree but having done a mot history check it seems that by its 2007 ticket it already had 11,311 clocked up and then by its next mot only had 662, obviously had new speedo/odo fitted but if lil ole me can discover that in 15mins why would a dealer falsely advertise it?
Tell the dealer and see what he does. He might be an innocent party but I'd have thought you could make your mind up depending on his response. Andy
Well, i got a reply. After asking them to shed light on the mileage discrepancies, i recieved........ " the 748 is now sold. Are there any other bikes you are interested in?" The ebay listing was removed sometime last night.
