Hi y'all, When I start my '02 ie the rev counter behaves erratically (not erotically)... It drops to 0 rpm and then up to what seems like the right reading. Later in the ride, when everything had warmed up nicely, there were a couple of times when the reading suddenly dropped by a couple of thousand rpm. It's happened a couple of times now... .. So, before I start ripping things apart and trying to diagnose this - is there a common cause for this behaviour? Thanks! Nick
Check 3 wire plug underneath is home but it could also be the socket loose inside the r.c thats soldered onto the pcb. R.c is sealed unit. I have repaired them by cutting the casing in half to resolder and then glue back together.
Ah - thanks - I'll check the connector. I hope it's not the rev counter. I don't fancy that sort of surgery. I'll check the wiring loom back to the ECU and all of the earthing. It's not the end of the world, but it is annoying... Will report back, probably at the weekend!
Nick, I agree its very annoying. Have had this type issue on my ST4S and have just put up with it. Possibly crank sensor??
OK - what did you tie-wrap to what - was it to keep the connector pulled together tight? I was very lazy - just wiggled all of the connectors that I could reach that looked to be between there and the computer and it's been behaving since. I figured that if it were an engine sensor then there'd be issues with the engine running. Now, it's on my list of things to check during the winter...
Tried the wiggling worked for a while ,solved it by tywrapping the plug to the instrument bracket.Been o.k.for some time now.Sorry for the late response went for our last evening ride last night.
