Does A Ducati 848 Evo Have An Approved Imobiliser?

Discussion in 'Insurance - Sponsored by Ducati Insurance' started by CRYSTALJOHN, Jun 17, 2015.

  1. Just renewing my multi bike policy and have just been reading the small print on the Ducati insurance site. I am unsure if my 848 has an 'approved imobiliser' fitted.

    195 - Warranted Immobiliser
It is a condition of your policy that any vehicle covered by this insurance is fitted with an approved alarm and immobilisation device (ABI Thatcham 1) or immobilisation device (ABI Thatcham 2) which has been notified and approved by us. This condition applies if you change or add another vehicle during the period of insurance

I would appreciate any clarification on this please.

Update: just phoned a Ducati dealer and I have a Ducati approved imobiliser fitted!

  2. John, the 848 has an integrated immobiliser. It might also be referred to as a factory-fitted or OEM immobiliser.

  3. Cheers Loz. Just called P&H to check, and they told me that indeed I do have an approved imobilizer fitted.

Do I have one on my Triumph Sprint 995i? I don't understand the imobilizer thing, I have a key to turn on the ignition, operate the steering lock!

Update: No, I don't have a mobilzer fitted to my Triumph. Double bollocks. Although I think the bike is safe, as nobody would nick such a pig ugly bike!

  4. A bike that no one would want is safer than one everyone would want. This informs my decision-making process as regards cleaning the bike and taking off the battered track-day fairings, etc ;)

  5. The immobiliser system linked to the chip in the key is NOT a Thatcham approved immobiliser for insurance purposes.

See the Ducati listing here for Approved Ducati systems https://www.thatcham.org/files/pdf/compliance.pdf

Or fit an approved universal immobiliser or alarm system.

  6. Informative!

My insurer asked for details of my immobilizer and also asks for Thatcham status. I'm glad I didn't claim Thatcham approval!
