Droopy Mirrors.

  1. Is there much I can do about my mirrors? Both have become quite lethargic and now prefer to droop on a regular basis, rather like my eyelids during office hours. I don't think this is related to the current warm weather here in the UK as they've been 'nodding off' for a while.

  2. If you remove the mirror and look at the black plastic mount inside, you will see a phillips head sheet metal screw (I have seen a few with a 6mm hex head screw). Remove that screw and you will see that the black plastic mount has a moulded in socket. The other part, that fits into the socket looks like a shallow bowl, like a wine glass with a stem on it with no foot for it to stand on if it was a wine glass. (the shank). take a file and remove a little bit of material from the end of that shank. This permits the bowl to pinch the socket more tightly. If you don't remove enough material it may still droop. If you remove too much it may pinch it so tightly that it won't move/adjust. Sometimes have to remove a little bit of material from the "point" of the screw or it bottoms out in the mirror body and won't allow everything to tighten enough.

Try removing just a tiny bit of the shank first, assemble, if not tight enough remove a little bit more.

    Hope this helps!

  3. Remove the mirrors, remove the screw, tap the mirror stem (M4 or M5.....I can't recall which, cos I haven't had to fiddle with them since) and run a decent longish bolt in.
