So I'm about to embark on my first restoration project of a dry clutch 750 SS. The problem I'm having is trying to find a workshop manual for it and a good source of parts. Would I be right in thinking a workshop manual for the earlier 750 Sport would cover the engine? Many thanks.
Lumbux is your best bet to ask on this one..... I think the commonly available workshop manual on the internet (the black cover version for the 900SS and 750SS) is for the wet clutch 750; but I reckon the clutch is a relatively simple issue to work out without a manual.
Hi AL, I'd agree entirely, but I think I'm going to have to do a bit more than just the clutch on this one, hence the question. So far on the list of things to do are the forks, the clutch obviously, all the valve train and probably heads and barrels as well. By the way what is your super ease off/penetration oil as I'm going to need a gallon of the stuff along with DrPepper
The two clutch versions of the 750SS are fundamentally the same in the engine department itself..... But I'll guess it has the Showa forks and Showa rear shock. and..........Break-Free - Products: Break-Free CLP It usually works!!
Here's one supplier, but there are plenty of others....watch the postage charges though. Break Free | Niton 999 Equipment Lots of gunsmiths stock it. Mine came from the States via military 12 years ago.....it seemed a bit better than the current stuff.
Thanks AL, I'll take a trip over to the next village at the weekend to see if the gunsmith has any available first
My name was mentioned (ive been on holiday, Antigua, and not a Ducati in sight!!)!! I only have the good old Haynes more for a just incase as its not the best and a genuine work shop manual ( copy of ). I think Al is right, the wets and drys are the same bar the clutch. If your really stuck, and this is somthing that I haven't looked at, you could try a 750 Sport manual as the engine is the same or go onto ducatipaso.org, there is a 750 Sport section. The only thing to realy remember with the clutch is to put the pack back in the right order, there is information the the site about this. Good luck, we're here if you need us, another pic to gee you on!! Not the best but it was dark.
Thanks for the picture Lumbux, its answered one of my quandaries regarding the finish on the clutch cover. Watch this space for more questions.
The clutch cover on the 750 Sports were black I believe, not sure if the SS's should be black but mine was polished when i got it.
