I recently had the battery disconnected. On powering on the bike, the I get the Preload Calibration message, and I can hear the rear suspension motor running. Normally after a few seconds, you can hear it straining then it reverses and completes. It's not doing this, it just keeps on running, eventually timing out and the dash shows the DSS error. This has happened previously, and usually after a few miles when I stop and restart, it will calibrate. It's yet to clear. I called my dealer the last time to ask whether the bike should be on the side or centre stand, and they said it didn't matter. Has anybody else had this? Did you get a fix?
Yup. Did 12 miles. Still the same. The last time, I did about 100 miles, then stopped for lunch. It re-calibrated successfully then.
Does anybody know if you can do any maintenance on the skyhook shock? I hear that you shouldn't disconnect the canister from the shock, but can you do any maintenance on the preload adjuster? Has anybody removed their shock/unit? If so, do you have any tips?
Managed to fix it albeit until it happens again! I removed the plastic that secures the cannister and tilted it from left to right a couple of times. I could hear something sliding up and down the tube. I then switched the bike on. It started to calibrate and again tilted it from left to right. The tone changed and it calibrated! The DSS light has gone. I guess what ever needed to be on the internal thread is now connected. Good news that it's fixed. Bad news is now I have a spare unit!
Spare SH unit? Matey on another thread that Ducati are refusing to honour a claim on may be in the market for one..
I had a play last night. It turns out that my original unit, although reporting as calibrated, is only adjusting 50% of the distance the new unit adjusts. I only see movement when the preload is set to 24. No movement at 18. In other words, I'm going to have to swap it out. Has anybody had the rear shock/canister out? If so, do you have any tips? How do I get the canister either down through the frame, or the shock up? Any advice appreciated as I'll be working on it this weekend.
Start a thread, take pictures and a walkthrough description. I fear a few of us may need it over time I would imagine it will go downwards. Rear wheel out, under tray, pegs probably, the PITA will be if you have to remove the system that sits under there, but as it’s a low can it should be ok.
Swapped the shock out today. (Thread: https://www.ducatiforum.co.uk/threads/howto-remove-rear-shock-canister.62775/) The old pre-load adjuster wasn't working well even after reporting as being calibrated. When I shook the canister, I could hear something lose. The label on the original shock had what looks like a date number: 2015 12. The replacement had 2015 24 on it. I did a few miles on it this evening. It feels completely different as I now have pre-load. Happy happy. Bike is back to 100%, quick shifter is working well, and exhaust servo eliminator is in place!
@al_b so overall new shock? I am in the same shoes with a 2015 Multi DVT and after a few visits to the shop, nothing... They can't even figure it out.
Yup @salviche , replaced the shock. Managed to get one from eBay, shipped from Poland for about £250 all in, which is better than £1200 from the dealer.
