1260 Dss Warning / Error!

  1. Out on a reasonably decent ride with some other Ducatisti bretheren last week, when on a number of occasions I got a pretty constant flashing warning on the dash about the DSS.
The bike didn't seem to be affected in any way, however, it's booked into Rider's Bridgwater on Thursday for diagnosis and with luck, rectification, whatever it might be.

Whilst I do appreciate it could be a myriad of things causing the warning, having had the rear suspension unit completely replaced back in December 2020, it would be rather disappointing if this ends up being the culprit. WTS......

  2. Ghost intermittant issue hopefully, turn off leave it a few minutes. Fire it up & off you go'

  3. If it is the rear shock absorber, at least it’s still under warranty. Andy

  4. I did what you suggested GZB, however, the issue persisted not once, but three times.
It does seem to momentarily clear itself, then soon comes back.
As Andy says, the new suspension unit remains under warranty, so if it is this, it will be resolved, as indeed would whatever is identified, as I have the 4-year warranty cover in place.

  5. Back from Riders, Bridgwater and they think the issue, which didn't manifest itself on the ride in or on test, might be the sensor range setting. In some ways similar to losing a wi-fi signal, the technician explained, the upper and lower suspension sensors lose connectivity between each other and continuously try to re-set. My clarification, not the techies' word for word, but it seemed to make some sense. And no, I didn't go launching the bike over humpback bridges to fully extend the suspension, hence the defect. That said, the route I took via Shapwick, Somerset, has some of the worst surface deformation I've experienced in a while, which even at 30-40mph, got me out of my seat 2-3 times on the way. Even that didn't activate the DSS error.

All errors logged were cleared and they've kept the job-card open, so that in the event DSS shows it ugly face again in the next 2-3 weeks, they'll order a replacement sensor and fit it.

It didn't re-appear on the 25 mile run back home, so perhaps it's sorted.

  6. Until the next time Tony!

  7. My 1200 twinspark does this, front accelerator fault, had the sensor tested and the cable to it and all checks out fine, garage couldn’t replicate on test. Turn bike off and on and it goes away for 6mths?

  8. :( Well after another 300+ mile ride-out the other day, the DSS error replicated itself. So once Riders have got the sensor in stock, the bike's off to be fixed. That's three bike repair issues that have now been covered/dealt with within the extended 4-year warranty. At the time I thought paying an extra £600+ for the additional 2-years cover was extortionate, however, now, after circa £5k of repairs, this seems like a good decision.
At least now with the 4-years warranty being standard, this is not something to be worried about. Thank goodness o_O

  9. £600.00!!! I negotiated the four year warranty as part of the official purchase deal ;)

  10. Well done you.:upyeah: I managed to get a great price for my 1200 Pikes Peak, plus a few other tasks included within the exchange price, like re-fitting various bits & pieces from the exchange bike, but couldn't push the dealer to do anything else for me. Next time I look to change bikes, before I do, I'll send you a PM and maybe you can get involved with the negotiation process. Then again, the 4-year warranty will already be included, so perhaps I won't need you anyway........
