DTC on a 2009 1198

  1. Before I go on, a special mention to Iceman666 for his thread DTC on 1198 Base... Done. - ducati.org forum | the home for ducati owners and enthusiasts

I bought a complete unit from ebay from this chap Used Ducati Parts, Used BMW Parts items in Imperial Sportbikes store on eBay!

This had the wheel sensor, bracket, shim, screws, the lot. Oh and the DTC module. Everything. The 2009 wiring loom is identical to the newer later 1198 with DTC as standard. So all the connector plugs are there. Just need the DTC. RHS Rotor, ECU Reflash and some odds and sods. Lambda sensors blanks which i have but dont know what to do with as I type. Laterz.

    $(KGrHqFHJEIFE3tZO20rBReuYcEMR!~~60_58.jpg

All I needed was a set of those buttons that the wheel sensor picks up on the front wheel

    IMG_0509.jpg

Icemans thread has other tips on these. Ie home made ones. However a set of rotors came up on ebay shortly after i bought the dtc. £200. I guess i swap the RHS over and resell for same money. My set are perfect too.

    IMG_0510.jpg

Unfortunately the buttons are hard riveted on so i cant just swap buttons.

    IMG_0511.jpg IMG_0512.jpg

So i need to swap rotors. Ill do this last. Front wheel removal required.

So I Installed wheel sensor. If anyone knows how i insert pics the orientation i want please lemme know. Ta.

    IMG_0514.jpg

I routed wiring thus, the wheel sensor plug is adjacent to the EXV (removed for now, its been deactivated on ECU by a fine chap on here you know as ChrisW, he also activated the DTC. All for a very competitive sum. A lot lot less than a 1198s ecu. BTW I run slash cut term slip ons. I'm on the lookout for the downpipes so that i have a full 70mm system. He also added some other stuff which i havent gotton round to, things to help me plug my laptop into. This will come later in this thread. I guess. One thing at a time...)

    IMG_0515.jpg IMG_0516.jpg IMG_0517.jpg

Then i connected up the reflashed ecu which I neglected to photo but you all know what it looks like, If you don't well sorry. I may edit it and take a pic for you. Requests on a postcard to some address I may make up in a minute or two.

    IMG_0518.jpg IMG_0519.jpg

I plugged in the DTC unit. Its installed under the seat. Its just starting to rain here. Bollox. Ive limited garage space so I will bolt it in place tomorrow.

Right lets switch this puppy on and see if DTC is ok.

    IMG_0521.jpg IMG_0522.jpg IMG_0523.jpg IMG_0524.jpg IMG_0526.jpg

Success!! I cycled through the menu, DTC was there, I activated it, set the level and now its done.

Right Lambda sensors. Will disconnect and insert blanks. However I will wrap them and stow the safely on board for future. I'd only lose them somewhere in my garage.

The EXV is being electrically disconnected until i do a track day on the 8th. If i get through the noise i will remove entirely. I got away without using baffles last time. I cant hear the damn bike with the baffles in and would miss my gearing. (I also always wear earplugs) however i managed to pass a retest later and did the final sessions baffless. Much better. So if i get away with it again its in the parts bin.

ChrisW advised I buy these, so I did, he also sent me a disc and links to software. Ill post these later.

  2. I bought an OEM DQS from eBay. Plugged it in and then flashed my ECU with a map provides by ChrisW so now i also have DQS. So both DTC and DQS is retro hittable for 2009 1198 bikes onwards.

Do you get DQS on the dash like you do for DTC?

  7. No. DQS doesn't show on the dash. Is it supposed to?

  8. Don't know. Remember to reactivate both the DTC and the DQS if you disconnect the battery.

  9. Will do thanks.

I'm going to perm connect the cables to my battery so I can access ECU via the air scoop. Save taking the side panel off each time.

Hopeflly sunny tomorrow so I can get out on bike for a blat.

  10. I built myself an extension cable for the diagnostic connector so I can access the ECU without taking the fairings off.

Power is from my Optimate flylead. I removed the crocodile connectors and replaced them with a 2 way Tamiya connector

All the bits are on eBay (some 2 core cable is fine)

Since modded to remove the crocodile clips. Bonus is, no polatiry inversion of the flyleads.

  11. might make myself look stupid here but if this works on the 848 will go on the 1098 as well?

  12. 1098 has a different wiring loom so you would need to swap looms too which might make it cost prohibitive.

  13. hmm good point, im guessing id be good with a bazzaz system?

  14. Yes, I only converted mine to bring it to 2011 equipment levels as mine is a 2009 manufactured bike registered as a 2011. The Bazzaz is much more sophisticated.
