Ducati 41 & 46mm Wheel Nut Socket

  1. I'd be wary of an aluminium socket for the wheelnut. That's some torque required. especially to release it but it's good that there's no 'taper' on the end of the socket like most conventional sockets have - the nut is thin and you want all the purchase you can get.

That said I've bought tools from that seller and they've been fine so if they're sufficiently hardened then probably OK?

FWIW I use conventional sockets but ground the end flat for better grip.

  2. I think his eBay listing is quite clear, not to be used with any form of impact wrench or over tightened nuts. I always use a steel socket and an impact wrench to undo my wheelnut\s but then torque it\them up properly using the correct setting.

Unless you want to carry them on the bike then you are better off with steel sockets and a good breaker bar and torque wrench.

I doubt if I paid that much for my steel sockets when they were new, but it was a while ago.

I actually have a set of sockets that are alloy for 10 point wheel nuts which were popular at one time but I have never used them and was not impressed with them when I got them as the alloy seemed much more flimsy than standard steel sockets.

Personally I would give them a miss and buy steel.

  3. I use an oberon one and no problems. I tried a steel one with my impact gun for loosening only and it jammed on the nut. A bad experience maybe ?

  4. A pair of chrome vandium sockets will cost about the same.
Why bother buying weaker alu sockets?
