Hello, i have a ducati 749 Dark 04. im looking to buy a new chain as my current one is extremely rusty and has many stuck links. My sprockets are fine so they wont be getting changed as of yet. this is the problem... i dont know what chain to get! is it meant to be a 525-98 or 96 or a 520-98 or 96? what do they come in as standard? thanks!
525 is standard . Links are dependant on sprockets but its usual to cut them to length . If you dont have a riveter I would advise you to go to a shop to have it fitted . Riveters are also to be used correctly , tight then half a turn is what I do , some over tighten which isnt good.
This is handy if you decide on sprocket change . Gearing Commander: Motorcycle Speed, RPM, Chain & Sprockets Calculator
Hey guys, got the chain and tyre fitted! all good. but the bike FAILED MOT!!! it failed on front offside and nearside brakes Quote from MOT fail sheet " Offside / Nearside front roller brake test indicates a binding brake " soo... what they tell me is that its either just the pads, OR it can be the pads and the seals and maybe the pistons... so to be in the safe side.. anyone know where i can get some seals? il replace the pads and replace the seals, and inspect the pistons for any pitting. i cant seem to find cheap enough seals.. ones in ebay are like 70.... so any advice?
Binding brake . It probably needs the pistons cleaned up . You will need to take the caliper off, but leave it connected to the brake line, take the pads out and, gently , pump the pistons out to a point where you can clean/ emery the crud off. Do one side at a time and pack the pads on the side you are not doing so they dont come out.Push the pistons back in and refit the pads , if in good order renew if not . Unfortunately I think on your bike the front wheel has to come out , maybe Im wrong , which if you dont have a stand will make this prohibitive . You could try cleaning with brake cleaner which is a spray designed for this but you will still need to take the caliper off .
i got one of the calipers off, and just letting it hang off the brake lines, i took the pads off and they are all fucked. when i pump the lever, only 1 of the 4 pistons move... so it looks like its needing new seals. but i cant find any seals at a reasonable price.... gonna check the second caliper tomorrow and hope its not the same..
It only needs new seals if it is leaking . It is normal for only one to move when the pads are out this will be the loosest .Clean up the one piston then push it back in . Then you need to restrain that piston and pump the others out. New seals are difficult .If the pads are bad new ones may cure it for you
Suzuki motorcycle brake caliper piston pressure and dust seals 34mm - x4 sets | eBay will this fit my calipers? i know it says suzuki... but the Ducati 749 D also uses 34mm pistons, so id assume these seals should fit?
