1098 Ducati 848 Hub Axle / 1098 Weight

Discussion in '848 / 1098 / 1198' started by able duc, Apr 10, 2019.

  1. Anyone weighed the ducati 848 eccentric hub axle and 1098 equivalent. I'm on a weight reduction mission (but also cost effective).

I need wheels and was just going to do the 1098 hub conversion on my 848 because of the bigger choice of used wheels but thought if there was a weight penalty I'd concentrate on small hub wheels.

Any input would be appreciated and let me know if you have any wheels for sale.

  2. The 1098 has a bigger hole through it, so it must be lighter :grinning:

  6. its not just the hub worth thinking about, the sprocket carrier etc is pretty chunky on the 1098 compared to the 848 so by the time you have sourced all the matching parts to get to one or the other set up you will have wasted quite a bit of money (IMHO).

Personally I would just go with the 848 Swap and buy some OZ wheels to fit, depending on of course what bike it is, no point in putting fatter rim and rubber on there if you aren't needing the traction grip as much

  7. A guy here has a good complete 1098 swinger with everything needed for $150 so not too bad.

But yes good advice, it's a track only 848evo and I have a 6 spoke OZ BSB wheel that could go on after a hub change but didn't want to go that wide even though it's a beautiful thing and very light. 1100s hypermotard wheels would be the way to go I'm thinking and retain the small hub.
    Thanks
