Hello all! I have had my EFI 900 Sport for about 6 months now, done some research and am ready to start on some upgrades now! As far as my reading goes the 900 sport is the same engine and basic structure as 900ss, just missing some upgraded shocks, and some upgraded wheels and stuff.. however the engine should be exactly the same. As I'm working on quite a low budget I'm looking at 3 upgrades: Power Commander, Slip ons, Intake As far as my research goes If i upgrade both, slip ons and intake I NEED to remap the system with a performance ECU or Power commander (PC is cheaper so that's my choice) At the moment my Ducati has stock pipes. As far as I understand I need to get slip on links so that I can fit slip on pipes. Again as far as I understand at that point I can fit ANY aftermarket slip ons, doesn't matter if they're vipers/scorpions/remus and if they're for yamaha/honda/kawasaki.... Thus a LOT cheaper than Ducati specific ones. Firstly, am I right with all the above? Secondly, does anyone know where I can get some cheap slip on attachments? or if anyone here has some for sale? Lastly, could I go for some 2nd hand slip ons to save some money and what to look out for when getting 2nd hand ones? I will need 2 of them. Does anyone here have any? And one last questions, is it possible to program the PC myself or would that be not possible? I have reasonable/quite good IT skills. Thanks in advance!!!
Hi mate what you are looking for is link pipes ebay is a good start Do not think you would be able to reprogramme the ecu even if you could communicate with it and burn to the eeprom You need a dyno to track the changes Steve B
Thanks! I've found some link pipes on the bay for £70 from a local store. In regards to the ECU / PC, i understand the best choice would be to take it to a dyno, however as money is tight, researching, I have a quick question. I can get a new/barely used PCIII USB power commander for my bike, I have found free maps online for very basic upgrades. I'm thinking I should go with the PC first and then I can change maps as I add new upgrades (like exhausts/intake). Any complete objections to getting a PC first and using free maps ? Heard that might actually add a little bit of power / clean up how the bike runs on it's own? Would using free maps be 'bad'? I understand it would be 'better' to dyno it, but if that's expensive, and free maps will help as well and not ruin the bike if I add pipes / injection mods, I'd opt out for the free maps. Suggestions?
my advice, buy a new pc, you have a warranty on it, 2nd hand you have no idea what is right or wrong with it link pipes???, fleabay and the internet will turn up good aftermarket pipes that bolt straight on, scored a mint set of ducato [performance pieps for my ss in as new condition £140m, alternatively core your existing pipes do all three mods at once so you only need to visit the dyno once, you should get an extra 8hp at the back wheel and depending upon condition of motor, and other varioables you should get 81-83 hp at the back wheel had pipes, pc airbox mod done to my bike shortly after I bought it, got 81.5 hp, 5 years later had to get pc sorted out (it had died - hence my recomendation do not buy 2nd hand they do die occassionally) and same bike on same dyno now had 83.5 hp. seeems more miles = slightly freer engine
Great thanks for all the advice and help! I'ma start by getting the PC and i'll get other mods once my wallet allows it.
