Ducati 900sl Headlight Gasket Picture Required Please...

Discussion in 'Supersport (1974-2007)' started by KG900SL, Apr 18, 2016.

  1. Please can an owner of a 900SS/SL 94-97 please assist with a pic or two of the headlight gasket installation on the headlight assy, and around the fairing cut- out.

    Many Thanks

  2. Out of all the pics I have, there is not one which shows the seal on the bike......however, I found the pic below........this on my spare headlight........

..............I think the seal is the right way up (thin bit to the bottom)........the 'closed' side goes against the headlamp glass 'rim' where it joins the reflector..........the fairing should in theory push against the seal, stopping water getting through around the headlight.

  3. Thanks Arquebus.

Have just received a new gasket for the restore, haven't had any luck with google image search.

So my dilemma, does the gasket get fitted either OPTION: 1, 2, 3? First option, up against the lens 90deg, on top of the lens 90 deg, or on the lens housing???

    This OCD shite killing me...:mask:

    Thanks!!!

  4. Well.......I'm stuffed if I can remember...........They all look possible!

I would have thought the object was to keep water out of the lamp as well, so it sat against the glass as per 0512 ; but IIRC mine was too loose in that position and yours doesn't look right in 0512.

Do you have to force it over the lamp in 0514?
It looks right in that one, leaving a bit of headlamp to poke through the fairing, with the seal hard up against the back of the fairing.

I'll get my torch out and go and have a look at mine in a minute.

Done that.......Mine is up against the black plastic headlight support.

  5. Great!!! many thanks for the assistance!!!

No forcing any where, all seem plausible options, but option3 makes most sense...

    Was leaning toward option3.

    Thank You:grin:

  6. Youll find out when you try to put the fairing on as it pushes against it
