Right chaps il to try keep it short, just finishing recommissioning my 996, when I collected it it had some horrible non gen indicators and a rather strange looking relay which I removed and binned. new relay arrived today from moto rapido, new genuine indicators, new plate light, new relay… they don’t work, nothing on the dash no click from the relay, with regard to the relay it seems to get warm, I’m not an electrical guy but sure that isn’t right, I’m wondering if they have swapped the wires in the plug maybe? anyone able to help? Just got to do this and stick the chain on and it mot time If you remove the relay and bridge the wires in the plug you have power to them they work and the light on thr dash panel too!
Olly, have you checked fuse 3 (3A, LH switchgear) in the fuse box on the rhs of the tank, also make sure the large 3 way connector for the ecu power supply (under the rhs of the seat) is fully home and clean. The issue could simply be a poor earth for the rear lights which goes through that three way connector.
Yes all new fuses, and plugs checked and clean. I wonder if someone changed the way the plug is wired? Going to take a look again on sat Anyone got one apart who can send a pic of the wire order to the plug?
Olly, the plug has three wires, black (31) is earth, Light Blue (49+) is the supply 12v from the fuse box, Pink (49a) is the load to the lights via the indicator switch. Is your number plate light working? Is the oil pressure and neutral light working? Double check the fuses are good, a new fuse still blows if there is a fault in the circuit?
Olly, when you bridged the two wires (pink and blue) did you get both full sets of indicators and the idiot light to work? If so with it all assembled and using a short length of wire, try shorting from the back of the black wire on the relay connector to the neg post of the battery. The idea is to bypass the bikes earth circuit, if it then works your problem is on the earth for the relay.
swapped the blue and black and it works fine. But annoying but glad it’s sorted. Just have been to get the terrible aftermarket ones that’s were fitted to work. Thanks for all of your help!
