  1. Hi, I am still looking for a Ducati, was looking for a 916 sps however a 996 sps pista has become available! but after doing some research only 149 were made, the one for sale has the number 179 on the yoke could this be or is it a fake? please help

  2. Kirby, perhaps the numbering relates to the entire "996 Factory Rep" production. According to Falloon the Pista was the 1999 built MY2000 factory rep #2 (a handful were built in 2000) of which 149 were produced, there were another 150 factory Reps (#1) sold as MY1999 and built in 1999

  3. Thanks for the help ! after further investigation i found it was 916 sps which had been fitted with a factory sps body kit (pista) so not one of the original 149 produced

  4. there was 149 Pista produced in 2000 as per this one 996 SPS Pista no. 21 For Sale (2000) on Car And Classic UK [C332735]

The one i have is £8000 and is priced as a 996 SPS rather than a Pista, If my investigations with Ducati should provide authentication that it was produced as a 1999 Pista then the price will increase to £12000 .

it does appear that there were many releases of these models to homologate parts for WSB

Ducati Desmoquattro Superbikes - Ian Falloon - Google Books

Initial frame number check with my bike states it is a 996SPS 2

its always complicated when so many models are released and i think Ducati themselves are the only people who can truly confirm a bike identity , rather than the word of a dealer .
