  2. Hi. Good luck with the sale.

I am not after these but - are you sure these fit 998 as you say they don’t fit 749/999 testastretta?
I was under the impression that 998 was also testastretta.

  3. That description is straight from the person I bought from. I agree the 998 is testastretta.
My intention was to blueprint the engine in my 98 750ss, so I bought on a Friday evening after a couple of drinks! On researching can timing with adjustable pulleys, it all looks fiendishly complex, he ce now up for sale.

  4. Strangely enough I went through the same thought process with the first M900 I brought, but have had experience with Cam timing, using a degree wheel, measuring valve lift, etc, so wasn't fazed by diving in.

I too brought a set of adjustable pulleys, but before fitting them decided to set everything up and see how far out the standard bike was.
I'd recently done the belts but they had done a couple of hundred miles at this point.

At the time I was more used to working on Jap 4's and both Jap and US Outboard engines.
Most had 'issues' relating to TDC marks and Cam timing of between 2-6 degrees.

I was really pleased to see that the M900 engine was so close from the factory, far less than 1 deg, that for my use it really wasn't worth the effort of installing and setting up the adjustable pulleys.

I've also over the years checked two other 900 engines to the same extent, plus the engines in both my M1000 and 1000SS to a lesser extent.
None of them have been far enough out for me to worry about, and other mods like ignition components would have a more beneficial effect.

  5. ^^^^ Admittedly with experience of only one M900 engine, my experience with setting up the cams using a dial gauge and finding the opening position and the closing position of each cam with a dial gauge and a degree disc, halving the degrees separation between opening and closing to find peak cam opening, there was about 5 degrees difference in the cam grind. The adjustable pulleys could then be used to fine tune the position of the belts so that I got the difference back to less than a degree.
