1299 Ducati Assistance

  1. Maybe this should go in "General", but seeing has I own a 1299 !!

While touring Europe I had a few issues.
The bump stop on the lower yoke broke off while doing a 8 point turn after my mate took a wrong turn. (bloody Tom Tom 410 rider which a most had are terrible and slow !!) So a 8 point turn was done only for something to give while switching from lock to lock, call me heavy handed but really. But it didn't affect the bike in anyway, just had to be cautious on slow tight turning.

In the high heat the paint bubbled on the clutch cover, which I guess my legs took off the paint when feet were down, again no real issue.

A line appeared across the dash, later on turn into two separate lines, again no issue
Finally while touring the Pyrenees the quickshift gearbox started playing up, couldn't get neutral at all when stopped, but could get false neutral when in higher gears, then while coming down it got stuck in first after a hairpin, eventually while stopped manage to get out of 1st into 2nd and go up the box, even so still couldn't access neutral while running.

Just after Adrall near Andorra I noticed changing gears were getting harder then the engine management light on in the bottom right hand corner and a red engine light in the box just below where the side stand warning is was on. Pulled over nothing seem wrong I could see other than gearchange. So cautiously rid the last 20 miles to the hotel in Andorra

I then rang Ducati Assistance 004480033228877, which was answer by Chevrolet AA who after some persuading manage to help, he somehow got Ducati Assistance to ring me, the only help was to tell me contact Spanish Ducati Assistance and he gave me there number.

Eventually spoke to someone who spoke English, who said a Technician will be with me at 8 in the morning.. 8.45 nothing rang them, was told we have record of incident but no record off Technician to be with me at 8.00, put on hold, then got someone different who didn't speak English on hold again...then got the original person who said Technician will be with me within 1 hour.

20 minutes later a recovery truck turns up seem to collect the bike, another who speaks no English. After hotel owner interpreting between myself, Ducati assistance, recovery truck company there driver. It was agreed to take the bike to Andorra Ducati, and Technician who was still on his way apparently will go to dealer. On arrival bike was left in the street, the dealer was Arthur Daley at best, I was told no computer for this bike until maybe 15.00 if we fix maybe get it back by 18.00, Had all my gear with me was told I could leave it in the Dealer, but I was not allowed to stay on the premises , was told to go into town and wait until 18.00...

Now forgive me for being paranoid but for me to leave a £20k bike in a back street Andorran dealer not a fecking chance. Rang Ducati Assist again while sat outside, only to be left on hold for 20 minutes so I hung up. Rang Steve at GT's in Plymouth told him the issues, told me to go into settings turn off all DQS off in all modes take for a spin and see it if helps and just ride it with the clutch... Change gear fine rode it back to hotel and 2000+ plus mile back home with the engine management light on, so did ride more leisurely for the latter part of the trip

Arrived back at Plymouth yesterday morning, went to GT's they agreed to process the 4 separate warranty claims after doing the diagnostic, also they noticed a drop in battery charge 12.2v supposed to be 13.4 so will be fitting a lithium battery to see if it helps.

GT's rang today they're collecting bike on Monday to do warranty work !!

  4. Not the first time I've heard horror stories re Ducati Assistance sadly.
Have a friend whose steering lock wouldn't release on a Multi whilst inFrance. Very similar story of frustration trying to get sorted.

  5. I feel your pain. I posted a thread last month after I was left stranded with a puncture and Ducati Assistance were no help at all. Has anyone had any help from them?

  6. Yes. When I bought my 848 Evo Corse. The AA turned up within an hour of me calling Ducati Assistance and I was sorted 30 mins after that.

  7. ET, did you call the number on the card, 008800 33 22 88 77, and did work from your mobile? When I called it from mine it was just a dead tone and so I dropped the first 0 and thats when I got through to Chevrolet Assistance, who just kept putting on hold before cutting me off. It would be nice to have peace of mind that you can actually rely on it.

  8. Ducati Assist service has been awful in the UK for me. Going on my experience I'd dread to think what it is like in Europe.

On each of the last 3 occasions I've used Ducati Assist in the UK (all within the last 12 months) I've lost a whole day's work waiting for recovery from home. The lastest was 3 weeks ago. Called at 8.52. Picked up at 15.30. With heaven knows how many calls in between.

I've an xdiavel. The rear tire is too wide for the AA's standard bike ramp. It needs a flat bed or van. On all 3 occasions Ducati Assist and the AA were repeatedly told about this during all calls etc.

Previous to that I twice waited for 4hrs+ stranded with the 1199 in Edinburgh. Both owing to failed instructions to the AA.

  9. When I had a flat tyre in the middle of nowhere I waited about 3 hours for the truck to arrive which was a third party company and didn't have a bike ramp etc.

  10. Been in touch with the seller Riders who agreed shocking service. Black Horse told them 4 faults in 2 days is unacceptable and the bike was not fit for the purpose it was sold for, suppose to be £20k+ track bias superbike, and was shown the way by a on a touring trip by a 07 reg Suzuki VL1000 Storm threatened to stop payment unless I get some compensation. Spoke to Ducati UK and they have asked for a email with times and length of calls to Ducati or is it Chevrolet assist .. I will get something from this !!
