I know the history of Ducati and Cagiva and selling to TPG in 1996 but I'm interested to know when Ducati stopped using the Elephant logo. I had a 1993 Monster which had the logo on the fuel filler cap/lid. What's the earliest year Ducati you have without the logo on........ 1994 ?
good question - I think the logo would be found on various parts right up until 1998. It was removed from fuel caps earlier probably due to cost.
i have a 916 from '94 and there is the elephant logo still on. so it has to be after '94. but whit those italians i would not be suprised that some bikes left the factory whit that logo and others whit no logo in some year. henk!!!
I have elephants on many parts on my '97 SS, plus I also have some '98 SS parts with the elephant marks. The most obvious part is the label on the fusebox cover, plus dash panels, rear mudguard, tool tray, in fact all the black plastic. AL
Didnt ducati change the logo and fonts in 1998? Guessing there will be some crossover and using older parts etc, but reckon its '98.
The Cagiva logo and typeface is hardly ever used by Ducati on any heritage or 'retro' clothing. I find this a little annoying, as I would like at least a T-Shirt with the correct font for my bike. I wonder if when sold to TPG, Cagiva kept the rights to the typeface. The only clothing I have seen with this typeface were the 2013 Monster aniversary jackets.
just checked I have an elefant on my 99 model 750 ss ie on the throttle housing doubt that means anything as I think my bike is an accumulation of parts not an actual motorcycle
