Ducati Clutch slave cylinder

  1. Hi
    Just joined the forum, I purchased my Ducati 1098S towards the end of the summer it was a 2008 plate with only 1200 miles on it. I covered that amount of miles in the first 2 weeks of owning it, trying to get used to riding it as i have only ever had GSXR's. Does anyone recommend any decent clutch slave cylinder makes been looking at the Oberon ones but unsure as my wrists is dropping off after 1 1/2 hours riding also been looking at the tail lights with the indicators included anyone got them fitted?

  2. Don't want to sound like a wuss.....but I also got a 1098S recently (well, late last year) and suffered with my wrists after any length of time. A couple of thousand miles later and my top tips;
    1. Go for the Oberon slave cyl, dramatically lightens clutch and improves low-speed manoeuvrability feel
    2. Stop riding on UK's crappy uncategorised roads, A roads and decent Bs suit the Duc's stability and at 55mph most weight goes from wrists
    3. Lighten your grip on bars and hold more weight with your core (sorry if that sounded condescending!)
    4. Most contentious of all, I read a thread on Ducati MS site about switching your L and R clip-ons an inverting them. I tried it and it's great; a much shallower angle on the bars but still clears fairing. Heresy I know, but if it means you ride more...

    I'll post some pics if I can

  3. Hi Rich
    I think i'll purchase the oberon cylinder then, once the weather gets better i will take it down to Ducati Leeds and get it serviced and all the extra bits put on that i want on, post some pics if you dont mind then i will have a better idea what it looks like

  4. That looks like it will help ease the aching with the angle of the bars, are they mirror extensions you have aswell? i thought i was young and fit untill i rode the 1098 and realised i was not as fit as i should be for my age!!!!

  5. Yes also got mirror -extenders, good spot. They work well for me although I know many on here don't like the "antlers" look. They were on bike when I got it, along with Termis and a smothering of carbon. Add in just 2200 miles in 4 yrs by original owner and I agree with you that there are some great deals to be had on hardly used 1098s

    Try the clip-on mod, doesn't look like much but really made a difference to me, much more natural angle and a useful 1.75 inch rise at bar end whilst unchanged at yoke end.

    When you invert, need to file-off the location lugs from swtchgear but If you don't like it, just a few Allen bolts and 15mins to reverse.

  6. Before you drop £90 on the Oberon (nice bit of kit that it is) try taking out two opposing clutch springs and running it on four only. If you're a real soft northerner you can add the Oberon at a later date and still run with four springs :wink:

    Bloody soft southerner ....

  8. After many years of riding old British metal (Matchless, Triumph, Panther etc.), my standard, all springs fitted ST4s feels as light as a feather... Grow some muscle you bunch of wuss..

  10. He's right.

    Take two springs out and forget the slave jobbie...Works a treat, at least it does on my 1098 motor...:upyeah: I also have new friction plates.
