Ducati Fork Lengths

Discussion in 'Ducati General Discussion' started by bradders, Apr 30, 2021.

  1. Anyone have a good source for lengths of forks? Older models: early monster, SS models, ST2/3/4 etc.

Have seen a few monsters with clip ons above the triple and want to find out of they are using longer forks or not.

  2. I have measure a 35mm difference in length between '93 SS forks and what I presume are '91? I'm interested to see what responses you get on this question.

    Cheers

  3. Me too Richard, bit not forthcoming yet...

  4. Where are we taking the measurement from, top to bottom of the leg, top of the leg to the centre of the wheel spindle or some other points ? ;)

  5. Top to bottom of leg. Objectives: check if S4RS ohlins are same length as sbk version: check if earlier bikes like ST, monster, SS, 916 are longer.

Considering implications of adding clip ons above the rope yoke which means dropping forks substantially. If they are all same length not really an issue. If they are shorter, it’s a non starter.

  6. my 998 and monster ohlins forks are pretty similar size
iirc the SS1000 fork are a bit longer and the same 50/54 yoke size as the monster. if this is enough to put clip ons above the top yoke i dont know for sure
but surely under yoke clips ons with risers are a better plan with your existing ohlins forks
or you can try to find a rizoma PA202 top yoke and clip on set 2nd hand

  7. Thinking for simplicity tbh. Everything should fit and not foul much.
I worry if it will drop the front too much and wheel will foul under breaking, but saw a monster the other day with them and guy reckons it’s fine and been like it years. Looked adjustable forks but he didn’t know if standard. I remember there was an SS model with longer forks but wasn’t sure about other monster and St range.

  8. I’ll measure my ST’s forks and those on my Monster 1100S for you, give me a while :upyeah:

  9. Just checked.
ST2/4S/748/998 all 71.5cm top to bottom. The difference between the ST & 748 etc is where the top yoke sits on the fork obviously. On the ST it’s right at the top, 748 etc fork protudes through top yoke.
Monster Ohlins are in pieces at the moment and I’d be guessing if I were to measure the 2 halves and try to estimate the final length.

  10. My '94 750SS Showa's looks to be about 75cm ish from the bottom of the leg to the top of the tube itself, (not including the top nut). Although I have Maxton internals in them that shouldn't affect the length over the standard, non-adjustable versions that they were.

  11. My ohlins are 715mm from fork bottom to cap.

  12. This is the difference.

  13. The one I saw a pic of had the protruding preload and recount screw is at the top, not flat capped, and I wasn’t sure if adjustable monster forks were like that.

  14. The lower fork leg in the above picture looks exactly the same as my '94 750SS legs. The 900SS from the same era was the same, but with the pre-load adjusters on the top & an adjuster screw in the bottom, on the protrusion just below the caliper mounts.

  15. The lower leg is a '93 750ss but is the same length as a 93' 900ss leg. I think the upper leg may be an earlier 900ss leg (not sure what year)

    Cheers
