Ducati Heated Grips - Right hotter than left?

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by Ape2Duc, Jan 11, 2013.

  1. Am I going crazy here, it feels as though the right hand grip is substantially hotter than the left grip?

  2. Which is your favoured multistrada hand? You know, the one multisrada riders sit on till its numb so it feels like another multistrada rider is stroking you?

  3. A serious response I can't actually believe it, first time for everything :upyeah:

  4. I put this down to having to keep that hand on the bar all of the time (usually) for the throttle thus containing the heat, I'm always taking my left hand off adjusting my visor, sat nav etc etc so the cold air will cool the grip

  5. It's totally normal. The right grip is insulated from the metal bar by the throttle tube and to keep the grips the same diameter the rubber tends to be thinner. The left grip has a metal bar as a heat sink!

  6. As nutty nick says

  7. So I'm not going mad, that's kinda disappointing, any fixes/modifications to make the left grip as hot has the right?

Maybe remove it and use a form of insulation round the bar before refitting the heated grip?

  8. Do you mean substantially hotter on one side or do you mean a bit hotter.

i cant say ive noticed a difference on mine but they were on from the factory.

  9. Seems to be a good bit hotter, at one point it felt like the left was on min whilst the right was on max!

  10. Mines the same, just do what I do to even things out..... Swap your hands over for a couple of miles.....

  11. Maybe one hand is hotter than the other

  12. Mine both feel about the same, and not convinced about the throttle being hotter malarky! The few bikes I've had with heated grips have all been very even, but one suggestion could be if they were manufactured in different batches...? Maybe...

  13. Mine both feel the same.
Get a meter out if you have one and check the voltage on each of the grips.
Its a pain to do as the connections are under / at the front of the tank.
Alternatively get the dealer to take a look, as it doesn't sound right to me.

  14. I'm going to ask for them to be checked on my first service, under warranty so shouldn't cost me anything.

  15. It's fairly straightforward guys....as Nuttynick said earlier, they cannot heat up evenly, the LH will take longer (feel colder) as its trying to heat the handlebar.... The rh handle bar is insulated by the plastic twist grip and air ( clearance between bar and plastic a bit like double glazed windows)
    Honest !!

  16. Can't say I ever noticed a difference, however, I have Grip Puppies over mine now and they are certainly the same?

  17. Dont agree mate, slight difference perhaps. Manufacturers of a 12k plus bike should be savvy enough to provide heated grips that work, the heating element in contact with your mits is the same regardless of whats behind. Mine work ok.
