For Sale Ducati Monster 1200r

Discussion in 'Ducati Bikes For Sale' started by antk, Jun 29, 2024.

  1. Hi guys,
I have decided to sell my ornament! Long story short I acquired this from a mate a short while ago who kept it in his house as artwork! I don’t blame him either, my intention was to ride it for the summer and then keep it in my study.
On reflection it’s too good for that. Can anyone suggest where might be a good place to advertise it?
It’s a 2016 bike with 102 miles on the clock, it had belts changed at Ducati dealer 2 years ago.
Obviously as new condition, fitted with termi’s (with Ducati map) and a few other extras as seen. I also have a new evotech passenger foot peg eliminator in a box. Comes with all manuals etc etc.
Guide price I have no idea! It’d suit a collector maybe? Is £13 to £14k too ambitious?
    Thanks for any advice

  2. Difficult one. Lovely bike, obviously, but is it really collectable??? Looking on Autotrader, around £12k seems tops from a dealer (with the possibility of finance, warranty etc.) so I think £13-14k privately is a bit optimistic. OTOH, The Bike Specialists have a 1200S for £12999 (https://www.thebikespecialists.com/...heffield-29cadf69-88ed-46f2-b431-2b45f5568b7b), but they do that! You could try an ad on here? Whereabouts (roughly) is the bike located?

  3. Hi Andrew,
Thanks for the feedback. I was thinking it may suit a collector (it being the pinnacle of Monster design) because it’s unlikely one will ever find an essentially brand new M1200R ever again.
I’ve seen the 1200S variants for sale but I really don’t think they compare with the R, I know this after being put off the S after my feet fouling the exhaust bracket on a test ride some years ago. The detailing on the R is exquisite imo, but I am a bit ocd and biased!
Bike is located north Essex on the Herts, Cambs border.

  4. Wow, interesting!! 102 miles.

I’d pitch it at top book (private), whatever that is. See what bites. GLWS…

  5. The only thing I didn't like about my 1200s was the footrests. Hard to position your feet and ground clearance wasn't good

  6. I couldn’t agree more, I was so disappointed with my test ride from Ducati Cambridge with their 1200S demo bike, it went like the clappers but my feet fouling on the pegs was awful. The R has beautifully machined riders foot pegs and removable passenger pegs rather than the one piece casting of the S. More power and ground clearance too, it’s built with the track in mind basically.

  7. Price depends on how quickly you want it gone in today’s market. Unless it’s priced aggressively (taking into account age/mileage/condition) it will not sell. I don’t think it’s “collectable” despite the mileage tbh.

  8. agreed not going to be a collectable. but lovely bike - I had one and would have another

  9. I think its worth a few quid more than any other 1200r for sale but not huge amounts.

    Using dealer prices:
Deduct no warranty or return as a private seller (quite alot £)
Then deduct no finance option. (quite alot £)
Your location may be a factor if you are far from major population centres.

If you don't sell soon you might have it at you house until next March so to avoid that deduct....

It is a lovely looking bike. Are you sure you don't really want to keep it?

  10. i have this bike in similar guise with around 7K on it. The market is all over the place it's true, but if it's any help then you could most definitely have got 11k (possibly plus) for it around 2 months ago, I know this for a fact (which is extremely rare on here:)).

  11. Might be worth asking a few dealers if they'd sell it on a sale-or-return basis? I believe The Bike Specialists do this, and I see that Hyside (must be local to you?) have a new, unregistered RD500LC for sale (at £39995!).

  12. The bike is 8 years old with no warranty, so despite the low mileage, won’t command that much of a premium over a new one tbh. It’s a lovely bike, but once someone buys it and sticks a few miles on, won’t be any different to any other.

A collector may pay a bit more, but that’s a very limited audience.

  13. Thanks, appreciate the feedback, good points by all. I’ll probably take a punt on bike trader for 12.5k ono and see if there is any interest, I’ll chat to a couple of dealers too. I’m in no rush to sell and have made space in my study if necessary. I’ve a multi GT as my regular tour/fun bike so don’t really want to devalue the monster by riding it

  14. Good plan

  15. Sounds sensible, GLWS.

  16. Antk, not Monster related by I’m also north Essex (Saffron Walden) and also have a Multi GT. are we neighbours?

  17. Hi Deamer,
    We are indeed near neighbour
Walden is less than 10 minutes from me, do you go to Walden bikers in Newport?

  18. Nice bike and only 102 miles...however, I bought my 1200R last year for £8,400. Yes, it's done 10k miles but I think £12k might be a lot. That said, if someone wants one to be part of a Ducati R collection, then it might make the money. Good luck with the sale...it's a lovely machine.
