So I’m considering selling my Speciale, but before you read any further it was a Cat N in 2023. Fully restored, pre accident photos available as I bought it direct from MotoMine and collected it from them. They managed to get me the handbook, spare key and service record from the previous owner which was very kind of them. I’ve literally just taken it out for the first time this year and whether it’s me, the roads, the power of the bike or the imdpending human my wife is planning to bring into the world in 2 months I don’t know but thought I’d gauge the interest in her, as although a stunner I understand the cat N devalues it. worst case it stays under its speciale cover in the corner of the garage for god know how long…. But that seems a shame, if someone out there is looking for one and could give her a good home 2500 miles, just MOT’d, will have to remove the plate as although DNR has its own medical definition it’s actually mine and the wife’s initials Full Akrapovic exhaust Carbon clutch cover Carbon alternator cover Carbon ignition cover Carbon seat cowl Carbon swingarm cover Carbon front mudguard Carbon rear mudguard Carbon frame covers Carbon infill L & R panels PPF Paint protection film Evotech radiator guard Evotech oil cooler guard Evotech tank base cover Rizoma fuel cap Rizoma reservoir pots (brake not fitted yet) Rizoma levers Rizoma brake lever guard Rizoma rearsets Ducati tank pads CNC black caliper spacers CNC black rear wheel nuts price….. I’m thinking £16k (£20k if it wasn’t a cat n - the industry standard 20% for the cat on the HPi)
Looks lovely, good luck with your sale. I can't believe a Cat N rating would affect it that much especially if you can show the before and after and sales documentation etc - good price for someone in my view
It shouldn't really because nobody is ever going to know when the replacement parts are right. I'd say 20% is top end impact and plenty would try to get more, however that is just what the market is. On the plus side, you can then always offer a more attractive sale price if you ever come to re-sell it because yours can always be the cheapest.
Having bought numerous bikes from salvage over the years I have no issue buying them but I get people’s hesitancy. on the 20% figure, this information came from an R1M I bought from salvage a few years ago, restored and then 4 weeks being rammed off it by some deranged old man. I spoke at length to the vehicle assessor who came out to assess the bike. An insurance company will devalue it 20% from current market value, regardless what I paid for it. At the time my R1M’s market value was £15k so for the claim I was making against the idiot that rammed me, my insurance company valued the bike at £12k due to the cat marker already on the HPI. He also explained to me that for a bike to be a catogary write off they consider 4 main areas on a bike. If 2 or more are damaged (beyond superficial scratches) the bike will be written off. Those areas are: the chassis, the forks, the swingarm and the engine. If those areas are ok then it’s a costing of the replacement parts. In the case of my R1M, I costed up the parts damaged in the collision at around £4K the assessor said I should add a back wheel (due to the impact from the car) although I was happy the wheel was fine I didn’t argue and it ended up being a £6k claim. The bike wasn’t written off again if that makes sense. Note to self, if someone rams you once, slowing down to do the right thing and exchange details gives them ample opportunity to literally ram into the back of you. *Bernie wouldn’t get out of the car (the car was ‘beached’ so he couldn’t leave the scene) so his bewildered wife got out
I am in 2 minds about selling tho. @Jolley buying a brand new V4 has got me looking at new ones, which would mean my track build 2023 might end up for sale if the urge overcomes me unless anyone fancies an Energica Ego RS
