Hi all, I just got a Ducati battery charger PN 66924601AX. This has a connector to simply plug it into the DDS connector under the rear seat. When I plug it in, the dash lights up, and headlight comes on, the headlight goes out in a few min's, but the dash stays on while the charging is happening? Is this normal? Seems odd to me? PS this in on a 2011 848 EVO Thanks
It doesn't plug into the plug under the seat, that is for the DDA. It is designed to connect to the diagnostic plug that is of the same design. Your 848 EVO does not use this type of diagnostic plug. I would not continue to use it via the DDA port as what would be connections direct to the battery on the diagnostic port are connections direct to the ECU on the DDA.
Thanks for the reply. The instructions are obviously wrong then as they clearly say that from MY09 onward it should be plugged into the DDA port. Anyway I will get the alternative cable to connect directly into onto the battery.
Just had a look at the wiring diagrams for bikes using the 4 pin diagnostic port and the 848 EVO. The charger uses pin 1 for +ve and pin 2 for -ve. On the 4 pin diagnostic bikes pin 1 goes straight to battery and pin 2 to earth. On the 848 EVO DDA pin 1 goes to pin 17 on the ECU which is used to supply +12v to it when the ignition is switched on. It also goes to pin 23 on the dash which gets the same +12v. It also goes to the fuse box on an ignition switched circuit. Pin 2 goes to earth. This is why your bike comes to life when you plug in the charger into the DDA. Upshot is it won't charge the battery via DDA.
