Ducati Racing At The Tt ??

Discussion in 'Racing & Bike Sport' started by cookster, Jun 3, 2014.

  1. why is there no ducati's racing in the tt?? any reason??

  2. dont be silly wsbk/bsb bikes seem to do ok!! why not have them at the tt.

  3. there are in the twins, A fella from UKMOC and here has a bike being ridden there and Paul Baletta from DSC DD series also racing I think...both on classic 888/851

  4. classic looked great, but id love to watch a couple of 1199s tanking it round in the superbike and superstock class.

  5. They have tried in the past but as said it usually ended with a blow up or a breakdown . Think they have to be in too high a tune to be competitive and dont last the distance .

  6. It's a pity. Something like a TT victory would do their reputation so much good. I seem to remember a certain Mike Hailwood - we never heard the end of that.
A bit like the reason they are pants in endurance racing too. If you wanted to prove that your bike was fast AND reliable, these are the events you'd want to do well in.
Wouldn't an SL out of the crate be up to the task?

  7. It doesn't sound like it. I guess the laws of physics come into it somewhere. Two whacking great pistons (mass) being put through huge inertia must be more mechanically stressful than four smaller ones. I'd imagine four smaller ones dampen the mechanical stress. Purely my thoughts, perhaps I'm thinking shite again.... I do that a lot... A very lot....

  8. the bikes with a deep sump don't have enough ground clearance for the bumps

  9. Ah, now there's a point smarty pants. You do see bikes bottoming out a lot. I'm gonna use that one down the boozer if you don't mind.

  11. Because the petrol tanks are to small :upyeah: A superstock pani would never make it round

  12. Do they fill up once or twice?

  13. My Dad took me to the TT when I was 14 (on the back of his old Yamaha RD250), camping gear and all.

We were admiring the myriad of spectators bikes there, as you would, but it was the distinctive and exotic Ducatis that caught my eye ...and that's why I'm on the forum today, 33 years later.

  14. Right on! At an average of 130mph you need something like 24 litres to do your 2 laps before refueling (it was on t' tele last night) and M Dunlop was touch and go on the BM by the sounds of it.

  15. Just carry some extra in a rucksack with a pipe into the tank. Simples.

  16. Or drink petrol before the start and put a catheter into the tank?

  17. I agree with the guys above, it's a real shame that Ducati don't have a suitable, competitive and reliable enough bike to compete at the TT. These are real roads that most of their customers will actually end up riding on - albeit at half the speed!

They're missing a trick in my book -think of the publicity that BMW are going to milk from Dunlop's wins on their anniversary return. Win on Sunday, sell on Monday and all that.

Besides, don't we all actually want a Ducati thats both fast and reliable - race tech always filters down to street bikes, so why not build a race bike that's reliable enough for endurance racing and let that tech filter down?

  18. There was an Aussie guy racing a 999R when I spanner end at the Manx

  19. If there was one we were tasked with slapping a louigimoto sticker on the front of it so we had to make do with the monster lorry...
